    The pattern is from Carol Doak's Mariner's Compass Stars. I used pattern #8 called Denmark. I blew up one of the copies to do the big block and then made the other blocks the normal size. Then I messed around with it on the design wall until I had some pleasing combinations. I have 5 books on compasses and liked hers the best because I didn't have to do curved seams. It also comes with a DVD for your computer. Next time I'll try a variety of blocks to make a scrappy looking group of compasses from batiks.
    My husband is so excited about sailing and this has a lot of meaning for him.
