I laid the ribbons side by side and overlapped the edges, then stitched through both layers from the top. I ended up putting some thick masking tape guides on my machine bed to hold the outer edges straight while I stitched down the middle. One of the biggest problems, other than the stiffness, was that if the seams pulled while I was handling the quilt top, the edges of the ribbons would fray and the seams would come apart, then I'd have to redo them a little deeper. When I quilted it I did an all over meander, making sure my quilting went back and forth several times over each of the seam lines to hold them in place. In some areas, I even pressed some fusible interfacing to the underside to hold them until I got the backing on and the quilting done.

You did such stunning job thread painting with the horse especially. I keep wondering what to do with all the ribbons I earned from quilt shows.

We also have a couple of Rubbermaid tubs of horse show ribbons when my daughter did hunter/jumper competitions. Never thought about trying to make a quilt out of them. Beautiful work. The texture of the ribbons is a paper-like-satin-synthetic material, and I can only imagine how difficult they would be to work with!!! You were very brave to take that on!!!
