This is going to my step daughter in Germany for her birthday. I've never mailed anything to her before. Does anyone know what the requirements are? My thought was to pack it in one of those zip seal bags that you take the air out of..is that overkill do you think?

I've never shipped overseas before but yes, I'd put it in something waterproof then package it. I'd also document the whole process with pictures just in case something happens. Also, use an international shipping company that has tracking numbers so that you can follow it along the way.

Absolutely call the company and get all the particulars. The way it is shipped can vary wildly with shipping costs. She will be happy to receive this beautiful quilt.

RkayD,
I just found out through this site that in some countries they have to pay customs charges.
I sent a quilt to Scotland and did not know this. I put the value as to the costs of the materials and I am sure they had to pay. Ouch!
What kind of a gift-giver am I?
Now I am making another quilt and am going to make it so they don't have to pay customs.

It's beautiful.....you can mark it as a gift on the custom sheet. And can insure it. I have shipped quite a few things overseas and haven't had a problem other then length of time it took.
