Hi everyone; I just finished quilting this - the blocks are Jacob's Ladder and Snail Trails, hence the name. I saw this block combination somewhere on the internet ages ago and wanted to try it. The purple 30s fabric with little white motifs and the dark purple fabric was sent ot me a while ago by butterflywing and I wanted to do something special with it - it went perfectly (I think!) with the calico which I got in Holland. It's machine quilted - zig zag over the seams and swirls (like a snail's shell) on the border and in the open spaces of the calico snails.

It's a throw for our little purple sofa which has suffered at the hand (or rather claws!) of the cat. The kitty in the picture is Pépite, our newest quilt inspector. :D

Great quilt Kathryn, love the pattern and fabrics.
Pepite could be saying "so is this mine now?"

She thinks everything is hers - she's a tyrant! BUT she does sleep on the purple sofa so in a way, it IS hers! :D

Wow! I love the way the snail trail looks for a border. I never would have thought of it. Looks great and the quilt inspector in training is such a cutie pie! There is nothing cuter than a kitten IMHO. :-)

Is your sofa a) eggplant (aubergine! ) coloured or actually b) MADE of an eggplant? (aubergine?) You know I'm kidding, I hope! :-D

Thanks Esq and everyone for the kind words. :-D

K that is such a great throw! I love the color combinations! Right up my ally with the deep contrasts and the medium inbetween! You could make Bostons with the leftovers! LOL I love the look of that sofa!! It is the style I like. I love the love seat size too.

    What an adorable looking kitten!
