Aside from the memory that your mother cherished it on her bed, are there other memories in that small pillow? Are the scraps from your sewing scraps from other projects? I have found that controlled (matching or coordinated) colors do not make a cathedral window as wonderful as random beautiful colors. All those colors just make it want to glow like stained glass with sunlight coming through.
My grandmother made a cathedral window quilt for each granddaughter. It is fun to get mine out and look for scraps that were from dresses that my sister and I wore, or an apron my mother wore, or a maternity top for a new baby to be. Such fun to remember....
Thanks for sharing your treasure.

A beautiful pillow with beautiful memories. I made a quilted jacket for my mother a few years before she died. after her death the jacket was returned to me. When I wear the jacket I feel closer to my mother.

Thank you all for your warm and thoughtful comments in sharing my pillow and its memories. I very much enjoyed hearing some of your memories as well!
To Granny Coy...the Cathedral Window pillow was one of the first quilted items I made as a beginner all those years ago, so I am sure you or anyone else interested can do it. Start by making something small with the pattern and then you can decide if you want to do a whole quilt. It is my all time favorite pattern and I have it on my list to make a Cathedral Window queen sized quilt. Remember you do not have to back it or use batting, so once you complete the front of your quilt, you are done. Other than the white or muslin material (I used natural muslin), all the stain glass windows are made using up your scraps. I was just pleased that it has held up so well after all these years!

That is wonderful. I have a reverse on your story. Many years ago my mom made me a crocheted afghan. It is truly ugly colors and now has many holes and is falling apart. I am afraid to wash it that it will fall apart. My mom died six years ago and I can not bring myself to throw it away.
