I love this pattern. I downloaded it a long time ago when it was still free on the internet but never got around to making it. Finally decided to.

This is just the top and I still want to put a border on it. Probably just a plain black border and then black binding. Not sure how I'll quilt it. I'm a newb to quilting and not all that great at it yet and I'd hate to ruin this top. So, I'll probably just do some straight line quilting to be safe. Though I'd love to do a meander in the sky part. Or maybe even quilt in some star shapes. But my skill level is not there yet.

And I didn't satin stitch around the applique. I'm not too good at that yet. I just used fusible webbing. The webbing manufacturer says you don't HAVE to stitch over the raw edge and I figure since it's a wall hanging, it shouldn't need to get washed.

Anyway, good job so far on your Stairway to Cat Heaven.

Here's mine, I'll only post a link since it's a large image.

Oh yeah, the cats were done with a tonal black that has a butterfly print, if you look close. The sky fabric has gold foil stars and the moon is made from GLOW in the dark fabric.

Thanks for the compliment. I can't wait to see yours finished.
As for the moon, I just followed the picture layout.

About the glow in the dark...
If I had the skills, I would free motion quilt some stars in the sky with glow in the dark thread (yes, I found some) to complement the glow moon. Sometimes (very often) my ideas far exceed my abilities.

Ha ha--I noticed tonight that you two did put the moon where the pattern suggested. I'm old, what can I say.

Glow in the dark thread???? Cool.

I bet you could free motion quilt it! Trace some stars on, or pin some templates on and sew around them. Just do some loop de loops between! You can do it!!

Kennedy came home with me after school today. We raced to get wood in the furnace, the horses in, pastures cleaned, dogs fed... to have time to lay Jenny's quilt out! It took an amazing amount of switching of squares to get it right. Her dad pulled in just as we found nothing else to move! Whew! :D

Does your son know how lucky he is
Yeah, he does.

Can you imagine a boyfriend's mom approving of you enough to give you a quilt?
I've told Justin that even though I make Jenny this stuff, it has nothing to do with if they stay together. He can't base that decision on what we give her or how much we help her. Jenny was raised by her grandmother. She is 21 and manages a hotel and goes to college part time. She lives alone in an apartment at the hotel--with her dog and two cats. She has a beautiful soul and she loves my Justin, which makes him so happy. I appreicate her and just want to give a motherly touch to her walls. It's so much fun to sew for someone who appreciates it.

Last Christnas I made her a cat wall hanging too.

The black is what the cats will be made of. Two will be solid, the other two have G clefs on them.
