    I use thin batting (Warm & Natural usually), spray baste and a walking foot. Rarely have any puckering.

    I have also used flannel. And agree on the shrinkage part. but you can also use a thin poly batting or Warm and Natural. I would avoid any batting with much loft (fluffiness). Your top will kind of cling to the Warm and Natural which helps keep it from shifting when you quilt it. You could also use spray adhesives, or fusible battings for your tablerunners

    For my table runnrs I'using up my fusible batting. Sometimes w/use flannel but I was the flannet several times to take care of shrinkage
