Hi, your tie quilt is so beautiful!!!!! Must get at mine, I also have the book as I made the Farmers Daughter Quilt for our daughter a few years ago.. I will have to count my ties received from family members . My one uncle was 100 yrs old when he passed away.

Thank you all for all of the wonderful comments. I did have fun making this quilt. I did make a mistake when I said I need 96 different ties for the blades. I actually need 192. So therefore with 171 ties I only had to repeat 21 ties. I spaced them evenly so no two would be together. Thanks again for you compliments.

What a wonderful thing for your friend. Every piece of fabric will be a treasure for her. I just inherited an old tie quilt myself. It was made by my great grandmother but I have no idea where all the ties came from. She has been gone many years so the history is sketchy. Some of the ties are shredded now but I intend to repair it someday. I think I can just applique new pieces onto it. The back has short and long quilting stitches like she was teaching somebody how to quilt.
I hope it's okay to attach my picture to your thread.

Spectacular! This is the most beautiful quilt I have ever seen made from men's ties! I particularly like that you can still see that they ARE ties, and the quilt designs still work! I never would have though of using them in a French Braid for the border. Lucky Lady to get back her husband's 171 ties in this quilt
