The State Fair of Virginia has a new Barn Quilt Contest this year. Only one entry was received by the September 8 deadline. They sent out an email appeal for more entries. The winning entry will be reproduced and placed on the barn of their resident at The Meadows, Groundshaker. She is the great-great granddaughter of Triple Crown legend Secretariat.
One square between 12" and 18," with backing, batting, and bound. It had to be pieced, not appliqued, and contain only geometric shapes. We were encouraged to incorporate the signature blue and white colors of Meadow Stable.
Secretariat raced with blue and white checkerboard so I made that the background of my 15.5" block. I adapted a bird block that was created by Lynne Tyler of the blog, Patchwork Menagerie. I graphed it out on Thursday night when I got the email appeal, pieced on Friday, quilted on Saturday, and bound with a hanging sleeve on Sunday. Phew! That's alot of work in a short amount of time for one block.
The entries will be delivered on Friday. I'll let you know if I win anything.
