Your quilt is so very cute. Maybe you were tying at the most difficut (thick) locations? I agree with another board member...tie in the centers of triangles/blocks, etc.

If you baste it a lot, you can get away with using a regular foot on your sewing machine to stitch in the ditch.

Is there any way you could bring it in to your LQS and see if they could help by suggesting a certain needle for the tying? At our quilt ministry we tie all our quilts and we have never run into any problems of getting the needle through the layers. I'm thinking our needles are a bit bigger than the one you are using maybe??

Your quilt is just lovely! The colors are so bright and happy. Good luck with finishing it up.

How about tieing it in the centers but keeping the knots on the back of the quilt. I'm thinking you don't like the visual look of the knots on the block itself. Having the ties on the back eliminates that.

Some of the ladies in my sewing group use curved needles for tying.

I would have tied in the center of each of the five pieces in the block depending on how big the blocks are. Ties shouldn't be more than about 5-6" apart. Sometimes I add more just for the effect. You can put on a pair of Platex dish washing gloves to help pull that needle through.

That was my first thought too. Another alternative would be machine tying - zig-zagging in one spot to make a tight knot - keep width set to zero.

When I tie a quilt I put it on the floor and sit on the quilt and tie it as I go along. I also have a rubby thingy that I can get a good grip on the needle and pull it the rest of the way through.
