Default 100% Virgin Wool Samples - Good for a Quilt?

This past weekend hubby and I went to an estate sale and found a small mountain of 100% Virgin Wool men's suiting and solid fabric samples. Also lots of worsteds and winter white. They are vintage and in perfect condition. Well at $5, you know I just couldn't leave them there! So ... question ... do you think these would make a good warm patchwork quilt? I told a QB friend about them but she thought the problem of laundering might not make them such a terrific choice. What do you think? I might also turn them into quilted patchwork shawls and scarves.

And I love the "not eccentric" label on this batch ...

What a great find - I think they would work great in any type of quilt - you would need to dry clean.

Well, you could felt them so they wouldn't shrink any more and make penny rugs/table runners, great for applique wallhangings, etc. (wash in hot water, dry on HOT) I like their "Many of the designs are entirely novel but not eccentric", LOL! Beautiful, beautiful fabrics -- lucky you!

WOW, did you hit the jackpot, or what? Loveley find!! I love wool, it is my newwest passion. a year ago I signed up for a block of the month from the "primitive garden" from the "primitive gatherings" series. Just started it in April, I love it. I've been looking for the wool clothing, as well, just to use for art quilts, etc. But a patchwork wool blanket would be to die for!!! I plan to have all the little pieces cut out to take with me on my trip at the end of the month. Anyone know if there is any kind of scissors allowed. Just need to cut my thread and floss with them. A little piece of wool at the LQS is VERY expensive. Pictures attached. Enjoy.

Just yesterday I purchased a thread/yarn cutter pendant at Michael's. I'm sure that Joann's has it also. It's approved for travel...no point or sharp blade...just a narrow cutting edge enough to cut thread on one half or yarn on the other. Got great reviews.

You will never find a warmer quilt than one made with wool. We have one and it has lasted and lasted. It has a light weight denim backing on it and when you are using it you need no other covers. I wouldn't hesitate one minute to make one. Your fabrics look a lot like the one we have.
