Update on Purple Ribbon Box Quilt....

When I posted this earlier, it was just pieces on my design wall. Now I have all the pieces sewn together, and it looks much more like a quilt. The purples still don't photograph "true," but they are close.

It has ended up larger than I thought it would be. I had to turn my design wall sideways and put it on small stools to get this picture. (Hot Rod, my quilt inspector, helped, of course.)

Now I am thinking of borders. The pattern, Ribbon Box quilt..free online... doesn't call for borders, and I may go with that yet. I could bind it in any of the purples. But I really like borders.... I am going to play with the idea of one border in the darkest purple, cut the same size as the ribbons. Who knows if that is what I will end up with. (I will post the finished quilt though, so anyone interested will know.)

I would think adding a purple border would "stop" the flow. I was thinking just a white binding would work. Those are just my thoughts; I know you have made many beautiful quilts; and will figure it out. some quilts have to simmer a bit.

put off till tomorrow what you can do today, and if you procrastinate long enough, you may never have to do it.

Really pretty. If you want borders I think I would do a wide white border, then a narrow purple one, then another wide white one.

It looks great. I like borders on quilts, but I think this one could do with just a purple binding.

Very pretty! Have you considered a white border?

same here. neato design. You really don't want the border to diminish it. Dunsters idea is a good one too.

Very pretty quilt with a wonderful assortment of purples. I would skip the border. I think the white at the edges just complements the woven ribbon concept. I really like your quilt!

Thanks for the kind words. I will play with the border suggestions also. I hope my border (or not) decision comes easily. Sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't. Playing with borders next here...
