Stencils......for learning feather quilting. I make 12 inch, or more, squares...of leftover white backing fabric and make a sandwich, place a stencil on it and trace, then sit and hand quilt. Have enough for a small quilt now and my quilt friends say they are good. Have used this method on a lap quilt and it was very nice. As for your pictured quilt, the pattern is so pretty...and your techniques look great. Usually, when asked for quilting advice, I refer people to the batting manufacturer's recommendations. I have seen modern quilts with batting not very closely quilted that have been washed many times and there are no issues. Ole Timey quilts, yes, There used to even be old cotton debris in them. Much different today!

I do not see anything wrong with it ....you have done a beautiful job.....the loose fabric I believe will smooth out when the quilt is washed, I have had a few to do that and they do smooth out when washed.
