great creation,what i did for some of the local gals is made there daughters baptizem gowns out of there wedding dress ,then i take my embroidery machine,and write birth date name ,ect on the back bottom of the dress.them i make a tag and put it in the neck of the dress and say its mommas wedding dress....the turn out nice

I was married in 1967 and my three daughters all had their own dresses when they married. My mother made my dress and would not like for me to give it away to a charity. I was thinking about it and the same thought came to me. I have six grandchildren (so far) and I plan to make all of them a ring bearer pillow for their weddings. I may use some of the satin for a wall hanging like you did if there is enough fabric left over. I like this idea.

What a great idea!!! It's beautiful...and so were you :)

IMHO, wedding dresses were much prettier than they are now. Have you noticed that EVERYONE is wearing sleeveless (and not everyone SHOULD)???? SHEESH!! Maybe designers will get some new ideas since Kate's wedding. :)

Beautiful project! I never get tired of looking at these quilts. I want to make one myself some day..I am just to scared to make a mistake. Great job!

When I have a little more time, I'll consider getting my white velvet wedding dress out and doing a crazy quilt with it. My daughters are all taller than I, and I'm sure none of them would've wanted the style I chose for myself, but I'm sure I'll have fun creating a crazy quilt wall hanging from it!

As far as the yard sale dresses... Here's my wedding story...
I bought a dress at Goodwill that was 6 sizes too big for me just because I liked the way it was made. Tons of fabric and a very long train. However, we decided we wanted to have an outdoor wedding, and it just wasn't feasible to have it taken up and the train shortened, so I bought another gown, which ended up being perfect for me. The gown I used was probably worn before, but the first one still had the tags on it. I sold it (the train was kind of dirty) with the tags for cheap just to get my money back on it. The lady I sold it to was so happy she found a plus sized gown the NIGHT before her wedding! After our wedding, I had no need for my wedding gown, so I sold it too. It was a very nice wedding gown and I wanted someone else to feel as beautiful as I did when I married my soul mate. The fact that it's not hanging in the closet doesn't mean my husband and I don't love each other, it just means we got an extra $50 to spend on something else!
