    What a true autumn quilt!! Lovely!!

    Do you need a border? ..... Bind it off with the same fabric as the sashing.

    I don't think the border will help you tone it down a lot, as you won't see much of it on the day-to-day basis. That is, unless you are hanging it? Maybe you find it such, because you have been working at it for so long, and too close to it. Perhaps leave it for a few days, not looking at it ... then take a look from a distance and see how you feel about it.

    If you do need the larger size, try a narrow (a little wider than the sashing) border of the green; then a brown about 1/2 the width of the sashing; then a final border, wider than all, of the mottled fabric (not the leaf one)

    I agree that the border should be brown or green. You could set it off with a narrow orange or red border first.
