Moonpi had it right!! Way to go Moonpi. I only know b/c I was playing with one of my mom's a couple years ago and she explained it to me.

That is really something different. I am glad that some of our posters knew what it was for. The mysterious gizmo now has a definate purpose.

i agree that it is obviously from outer space. someone found it here on planet earth in the 60's and decided to use it for daisies. but actually it is an official martian quilting thing-a-ma-jig.

All right I'm showing my age. It is a Daisy wheel. I just made a baby layate with it. You also can make pompoms with it too.
