Whole is greater than the sum of its parts?

This top used the first kit I've tried. It was the right price and used 12 fat quarters and that was enough for me to get it. I was curious about how the FQ would be used.
My first reaction was disappointment - the blocks are awfully big and I wasn't used to that and the variety of fabrics seemed ... not very varied.
But ... I like it! So lessons learned ... big isn't bad and variety is in the eye of the beholder - and I just haven't beholden enough yet!
It sure is quick and would be a fun way to use the $1 fat quarters I found at the Houston Quilt Show - and a reason to go back next year and get more!
