What is the most narrow strip of fabric do you keep/use. I know we use 1/4" seam, but can that be less on a strippy quilt?
I usually throw it away if it is less than 1" wide. I suppose you could use 3/4" wide, but that would be really skinny, unless of course you do miniatures, in which case it might come in really handy.
I've started collecting my smaller stuff for string quilts, and am using pretty much anything larger than 1/2" (since my 1/4" seams are very scant at times). Biggest consideration is what to do with it - pattern/shape.
Anything smaller becomes stuffing for pads for cats/dogs at our local animal shelter. |
I give most of my smaller strips away. However if you are doing the farmers wife sampler you might consider using some of those. they call for some pretty small pieces.
1.5 is as small as I would save. Same for scraps.
I don't throw any scraps away, regardless of size. If they're too small to sew, I make dog/cat beds out of them and donate to the local Humane Society.
Two inches is the smallest I save.
I don't usually keep anything under 1 inch. Some people use smaller pieces for miniatures sewn with 1/8 inch seam allowances. I don't do minis but I sometimes save long narrow strips to tie up brush from the garden for trash day.
If it can be sewn down, then I keep it.
What - you guys throw scraps away? I keep anything 1x1 or larger......
