foam boards for storing fabric
 

I've searched some on here, but now need to ask. Who is it on this forum that makes the foam core boards? I've been using Polar Notions (200 of them), and they're expensive -- but excellent. For my remaining stash -- those pieces that are 1/4 - 1/2 yard I'd like something more reasonable. I have a lot of them.

I use the foam boards sold at Dollar Store for $1 and cut them to size. Works the same as the expensive ones I bought before finding these.

Me too! And you can order a case of 50 at a time from Dollar Tree. Have to love it coming right to my door :-)

Have you thought about using comic book boards? You can buy 100 at the local comic book store, if a store is not availiable you can get a hundred of them on amazon for around ten dollars plus shipping. I got 100 at a comic book store for $7.00. Hope this helps

ecHi, I dont make foam boards but i do go to the dollar store and buy craft board that is paper on both sides with foam in the middle. It comes in s sheet the size of large poster. i just cut it down to the sizes i want to use. i get 6 to 7 81/2 by 11 inches pieces out of one sheet. So at $1.00 a piece for the large board makes my 6 larger boards that i cut out of it cost me 16 cents apiece. its very cheap. hope this helped you out

Is the form boards acid free?

don't know if its acid free but who among us will live long enough for that to effect our fabric. a finished quilt saved for someone should probably be stored in acid free material.

I just purchased comic book boards from Amazon. They were about $13 for 100. I do believe you can probably find them cheaper if you have a comic book store in your area (I do, but forgot). They are acid free. What they basically are is posterboard cut to size. They in the long run would take up less room than the foam core boards. You can fold fabric that is about 1/2 yard and up on these. I do think I like the way these can stand up vs. the method of folding the fabric with a 6x24 ruler. You can really see what you have when you use these and they just seem to take up less space.

I was so excited to get these that I immediately started putting my fabric on the boards. I am already down to about six boards left and still have more fabric to do! I would have never thought I would need that many and now I need more. At least I realize that I do have a lcbs (local comic book shop - haha) in my area.

Now I need to decide how I am going to sort my little bolts. Should I sort them similar to what the stores do??? Ideas?
