My quest for FW
 

I know all you vintage enthusiasts will appreciate this. I started quilting about 6 months ago using my mom's old 15-91 because that was the only machine I owned and knew how to use. I am not a sewer, just a mender. I started reading about FWs and taking a quilting class, so decided I'd like to own one. In the mean time I picked up a inexpensive Brother machine for $30 on kijiji. It works just fine but then I saw a 99K so I got that too. It was too heavy to lug to class but then I saw an ad for a cute green 185J which I also bought. Of course it was as heavy as the 99K. All this time I am still looking for a reasonably priced FW. Then I see another ad on kijiji for a 301a in a cabinet for $50 so off I go to look at it. It is gorgeous, so home it comes with me. Still no FW but the 301a just pops out of the cabinet and is much easier to tote around and the stitch is perfect.
These machines just seem to show up in my life and I love them all, even the newer Brother because it zigzags for me. Right now I have a bid in for a FW at a local charity store so wish me luck. Meanwhile I will continue my quest and who knows what will follow me home!

Good Luck..... this collecting sewing machines is quite addictive... you might have to use the 12 step program at some point.... and I agree, your collection is not complete without a sweet little FW.

You have been bitten by the vintage machine bug to be sure. LOL You got some really great deals. Fingers crossed for you getting the FW.

Is that like Charlee's 12 Step Program, 12 steps from her car to the door? My oh my, vintage sewing machines do have a way of finding us. It is even worse when you have enablers in the family. My son is bringing me a 99K from North Carolina next week. Wish you luck on a Featherweight.

Hello, my name is Vicky, and I am a vintage sewing machine addict. I am from Iowa, visiting my son and his family in Wichita this week-end. I came for my granddaughters piano recital and am going home with 3 vintage machines on Monday. One is a 128 with LaVencedora decals my son got in Branson for me, a 15 series in a cabinet with oooodles of goodies at a church rummage sale here, and a very tired looking 1935 featherweight that their friend wanted to sell...decals worn off but she has good bones and purrs. They will be welcomed at home by enough Singers to form a choir......

You are all so right. Collecting vintage machines is SOOOO addictive. My hubby is very supportive so far (5 since January.) Yesterday we even brought home a cabinet with no machine (8.00.) Couldn't resist, never know when you are going to need one. Four of my five new purchases have come in cabinets. For some reason I like that much better than those not in cabinets.

These babies are hard to resist to be sure! I've managed, sort of, to resist lately, but I think I'm starting to be a bit more selective in my choices. I don't have two of the same model, and I've been being pretty picky about asthetics lately...if the decals/machine aren't in fairly good shape it's easier for me to pass it up... Could have something to do with living in a 2 bedroom apartment... :D

And yep! 12 step program is in force! :D :D :D All 12 steps from back of car to the door! (I'll have to take a picture of that someday to prove it! LOL )

How many vintage and antique machines does one have to own in order to be known as an addict? I'm up to 4 so far, but may not go higher for lack of space.
