What is this pattern
 

Hi good Afternoon i was looking for a new pattern to try adn i found this image and really like the pattern i found the name of the large block Dutchmans windmill? i think. but the block that has all the little triangles in it that makes it all look like it is framed in does anyone know the name of that block and where can i find a pattern for it.

I know the large block as Dutchman's Puzzle ... though many blocks have a variety of names, so Dutchman's Windmill would not be a surprise.

The "frame" as you have called it, is all HSTs placed like an Irish Chain setting ... very delicate look to it and quite effective done in the assorted colours. I have no idea if it has a proper name, but that's how it's made!

I'm going to remember that one!!

Oops sorry it is the Dutchmans puzzle, I have a pattern for that so you think it is a Irish chain? I will have to look that up.

Single Irish Chain, but the squares are made up of HSTs with one of the halves the background fabric. I think. :shock: (Meaning that is the frame for the Dutchman blocks.)

Clever idea. Any block could be framed that way. Hmmmm......

As Prism99 stated, but there's 5 blocks , in 5 rows,and some of the blocks look like they were cut in 1/4's, with HST's on opposite sides of the block, some of the other blocks are just solid. I would draw a draft on graft paper and just figure the math. Good Luck. I love the layout.

Not sure what it is but sounds intersting.

To make it easier to layout, the long side of the flying geese in the dutchman's puzzle should finish at a multiple of 5", like 2.5" X 5" or 5" X 10". If you go with the smaller size, then each of the squares in the 5X5 grid of the alternate block would be 2" square, which means that the HST's would finish at 1". Pretty tiny!
