2 Newest scrappy WIP's and a question
 

I finally finished paperpiecing the sections for my stained glass scrappy and am putting it together. I am finding where the center pinwheel meets it is very thick with so many layers of fabric. It is causing it to bump up. Any suggestions as to how to deal with this? I just know if I hit that when quilting I am going to break needles (learned the hard way).
The other wip on my design wall is my latest string quilt. Still have to make about 90 hexagon flowers and then it will be ready to quilt.

These are amazing! As for your question on the bump where all the seams meet- sometimes on that type of block it's helpful to press the seams open. I have heard of beating denim seams witha hammer to flatten but I haven't ried that! LOL

I've put the hammer to it and it works. I also spray with starch and press really good. I always put a piece of fabric or towel between the hammer and fabric.

Someone's making nice use of scraps for two lovely quilts!!

I open my seams and trim them a bit. If I still have a problem ... whack em with a hammer!

Looks like your blocks are all together, so if you haven't swirled your seams, it's a bit too late. You can give the centers a good shot of steam, hit it with a hammer a couple of times (against a wooden board, not your ironing board)

The trick to using a tailor's clapper is to use steam, apply pressure and keep the clapper in place until the fabric is cool.

Only other comment is if you haven't pre washed, the steam might shrink the fabric...

All of the above are good suggestions. Also, when you are quilting work your design around the bumps.

Wow o Wow! Both quilts are amazing but the second one really jumps out at me. The way you planned the intersections of the strip strings. Wow! Beautiful!!
