Anyone have an Instapot? Do you like it?
 

I have a heck of a lot of kitchen tools -- food processor, blender, bread maker, slow cooker, stovetop pressure cooker, rice maker, and I'm sure more I'm not thinking of right now. We probably use the food processor and rice cooker the most. The slow cooker gets little use, partly because I usually don't like slow cooker recipes, and partly because dh and I are home all day so don't really need to start something in the morning to have at night. Both dh and I like to cook, but not every single day. We are not very good with leftovers.

However, we are now officially cooking for just the two of us. Before my dd moved out, we were often cooking for four. I am wondering if an Instapot would be worth it for us. I like soups a lot, and that is what I'm thinking about most. Our house is on the market, so many of our "extras" are packed away in the garage and I really do not want to add another pot to the kitchen unless it really can carry its own weight for us.

Any thoughts?

There are two of us and I would not give up my instant pot for any other appliance. I do everything in it from
rice to complete meals. The seal seems to pick up the smell of meat which seems to be the only thing I have found
I don't like but soaking it in baking soda and dawn helps.
I am thinking of getting all our kids one for Christmas this year. That is how much I like it!

I have plans to buy one. My 2 nieces have one and use them constantly.

I LOVE my two Instant Pots! Best kitchen appliance to come down the pike in a long time. There are just two of us, but sometimes I make enough for son and son in law and even have cooked for other son and wife and three kids. Plus we like leftovers and sometimes I freeze the other half of the meal for next time later. Yum and easy. It makes great rice. There is a way of cooking rice with other things, as in pot in pot. There is an Instant Pot Community if you do Facebook. If not, there are several good websites with tested recipes. One is This Old Gal. there are more. Also, google what you think you want to cook and add Instant Pot. I have done "Instant Pot meat loaf recipes" or "Instant Pot black bean soup recipes". You still have to prep your food, as in saute if recipe calls for it, but it can be done on the saute function right in the pot. I wouldn't get any other brand of electric pressure cooker. I feel like I should be on TV hawking them. Plus there are a bunch of safety features. Worst it will do is shut itself off. It won't explode. Those are the old times stove top ones.

DD and DIL use theirs all the time. SIL even called me to say thanks for buying it because the food from it is fantastic. From what I gather from your situation, maybe you want to hold off until you get moved.

I love mine! It's one of the few appliances that truly "earned its counter space". :) It's a game-changer for mashed potatoes, beans, and boiled eggs. I use it 2-3 times a week.

New seals can be bought inexpensively. I've seen some people recommend that you use one seal for savory/flavorful foods, and another for sweet or mildly-flavored foods. I just throw my seal in the dishwasher, which seems to eliminate any strong smells. (I do keep an extra seal onhand, in case it gets damaged or something.)

People rave about its ability to make yogurt, but I haven't tried that yet.

DH *loves* Mississippi Roast. It turns out great in the Instant Pot, and it only takes 25-30 minutes (plus a few minutes to come to pressure, and a few minutes afterwards to let the pressure release naturally). :)

Not to be a downer, but I bought the electric pressure cooker as seen on tv.......cooked two/three things in it..now it sits on a shelf in laundry room. I guess I'm just so used to grabbing a pot/ frying pan and work at the stove...and maybe because it's summer and meals are usually lite and cold...there is just dd and me. Perhaps I should look into some recipes and give it a whirl again.

Just to clarify. The power xx or whatever it is called it different than the Instant Pot. Many many reviews and satisfied users and those who have had both much prefer the Instant Pot. Plus those infomercials are "propped". There's no way they made that food as shown.

Oh and I do make delicious yogurt in mine. I have some incubating right now
