Finished my first Log Cabin - Calm Sky Log Cabin
3 Attachment(s)
I finished my first log cabin. Very pleased how it turned out! Still needs to be washed to get out the quilting stencil and measuring chalk lines, but couldn't wait to put in pictures! I named it: Calm Sky Log Cabin.
Finished blocks are 14" Finished Quilt size is: 99 x 114" It was made using the Quilt As You Go method, done by sections (rows) with no sashing. Border added to top and bottom to frame. The dark brown is the last log on each block with that same fabric strip used for the top and bottom border. Don't mind the wrinkle in the third picture at the bottom of the quilt. One of the kitties blankets was laying on top of the bed when I put the quilt on it for pictures! :) Fabric used: Farmer's Daughter Jelly Rolls by Pam Buda Marcus Fabrics (logs) Vinery on Cream by Keepsake Calico (logs, backing, binding) Quilting done with stencil and also fmq - meandering clouds |
Looks great! I wish my first quilt had looked as nice as yours. Job well done. What's next on your list of quilting?

I finally decided to just take a deep breath and go for it, and I will definitely be making more from this pattern. Thank you for the nice compilment. It is also, my very, very first Free motion quilting. (used a stencil on part of it, the rest was free motion) Before, on all my other quilts, I have always done ruler quilting or in the ditch. |
Nice quilt, great job !

Beautiful quilt! Love log cabins. Nice work!

Your quilt is beautiful. I've always wanted to try the QAYG method. Did you use a tutorial online & if so could you link to it. There are so many ways to do QAYG. I did a small placemat using Leah Day's method (just to see if I could do it) & it turned out good. I'd like to try a few more from different tutorials before I tackle a large quilt.

I just love log cabins, yours turned out beautiful and I love the quilting you did. I have been meaning to try Eleanor Burns QAYG method for a log cabin, I have the book. You give me hope.
Thank you for sharing. |
