Virtual Quilting Weekend—May 23-26, 2025

God morning! Welcome to our May VQW. I am in the middle of moving from Ohio to Tennessee so will not be quilting with you this weekend. I did stop at the local shop last night tho 😀. I will peek in periodically throughout the weekend to see what everyone is up to. So what do you all have planned for this Memorial Day weekend?

Next months VQW will be June 13-16.

I guess I will not be joining this time. I had to have my dad’s dog, that we took in when my dad died, euthanized yesterday so my husband has decided we need to get away for the weekend. He is probably right but I think I’d be happier at home. Not that I am happy right now. Sorry to be such a downer.

Good morning! I got my Friday back! I had jury duty scheduled, but yesterday, I received a text cancelling my duty! I am getting things ready for the monthly Singer Sewing Day on Tuesday. I plan to use the design wall for my kaleidoscope quilt blocks. I printed out the block labels, ready to pin to the blocks. Today, I am cutting 5" squares for the faux diamonds quilt video. And pairing: 2 lite, 1 dark, and vice versa. I hope to stitch them at Singer Day. I am also cutting/collecting 1.5" strips for the next scrappy quilt. Lots of cutting!

I snapped a photo while my coffee warmed!

Lena1952 I'm so sorry for your loss. It's so hard. We had my Mom's cat after she passed for 19 1/2 years. Lucy's was.least 26 years old. It was my last connection to Mom so it wasalmost a double loss. As usual, we have something planned for a VQW. Heading up to the cottage. It's going to be cold.

Happy and smooth moving, Raggiemom. Transitions, new beginnings and so many adventures await you. Lena, not a downer but reality for you right now. Losing a four-footed family member is not easy, no matter what anyone says. This loss is probably doubly hard because it reminds you of your father's passing too. What a blessing to have a spouse that is caring for you when you are in sad times. Try to enjoy your weekend away, even if just a little.

Ashley333, what an interesting pattern/block. New to me. I am looking forward to seeing a finish in the future. Curious to see how it all plays out. :)

Two projects this long weekend. # 1 Finish a graduation quilt for a fisherman, nephew.. #2 Create a kabillion, OK, maybe 20+ Wonky Star blocks using my 2.5" squares from the Birthday Swap. I need a minimum of 39 more but dream of making it larger. I shall see after a long weekend of cutting flipping, stitching and pressing.

How nice for the VQW!

Lena, please join me in those that share your loss. It is hard enough to lose a pet, but one that is connected with someone is a double loss.

I am working on a project! And it is different than my usual scrappy style. I've long wanted to make a Labyrinth Walk but things got in the way. Recently, I saw this wild fabric that I fell in love with and it was on sale -- so it is time to do the project. I'm making this one for me, so can make whatever decisions I want including the wild agate :) I usually don't make the same top twice, but I learn so much and get so many ideas/improvements that my mind is full of options. Anyway, I'm not entirely happy with my Pink/Light choice. It works from a black and white value perspective but as the "top" I think I could have done ok with the slightly reddish hot pink I wanted to use, even though that came out very medium and darker than some of the Wild Agate.

So picture 1 is the fabric. I call them Pink, Wild Agate, Lavender, and Dark.

Picture 2 is block one. The quilt is made up of just 9 large blocks, 5 of one design and 4 of another. My goal for this weekend will be to finish the four. Should be an easy/reachable goal. I have 2 quarters of the last block done, 1 quarter almost done, and 1 quarter to do.

I think I will join in this weekend. Outside work is done so I can stay in and sew. I found a new pattern and made a couple of blocks. Yesterday I changed the pattern and I like it better. I think I might make 2 - one for Quilts of Valor and one for give away at Christmas. But I will need to go shopping for red, white and blue fabrics. YAY!

I can join!! Had to make a speed run to the cabin on Wednesday as the solar was installed yesterday so I now have power in my She Shed:). I was sewing at the neighbors house while they were installing it, I came back home when they were finished. So I have that project to finish this weekend. I also have some binding on a Christmas wall hanging to do if my fingers stop cracking. And I have the two blocks for the Abyquilts Optimism BOM to do.

Lena sorry for your loss, the loss of a pet is a loss of a family member.

Normally my sister and I do our shopping together but her normal Friday afternoon appt was moved to Saturday so we'll shop tomorrow instead so she doesn't have to come into town again.

I was able to finish my Zebra Burst BLock quilt and get it sent off to Virginia on Wednesday and I started working on putting the next quilt in line onto the frame. I have 2 of the same pattern, a Drunkard's Path pattern and they're only oversized lap quilts so I needed to cut my king size batting down to size. Plus I needed to put a couple pieces together to make it the correct size for the 2nd of these quilts. I went ahead and got another batting ready with the leftover scraps for yet another oversized lap quilt that will probably be the next one started after these 2 are done.

Now the problem for me is deciding on how to quilt these Drunkards Path but I've acquired a number of circular patterns and just need to either find a pattern to go around the circular section or make one with my IQ program/tablet. I've already got hopefully all the bobbins filled or at least enough to finish the 1st quilt so this will be what I'll work on today.

Your block turned out great! I saw this video recently, but can’t remember where, it was something about using up 5” squares, right?
