I would like to create a themed quilt for my mom who just passed away on Memorial Day. She was Italian. I want to be fun and reflect who she was.
Where can I begin.? Obviously, this material will be hard to find....I think. |
Welcome from Ireland.

Where can I begin.? Obviously, this material will be hard to find....I think. Think about your mom and make a list of all the things you remember that she loved. I would probably try to include favorite hobbies, flowers, foods, and vacation spots. There are tons of novelty fabrics available so it shouldn't be too hard to find plenty of great fabrics. (Well, it could be hard on the pocketbook.) What will you do with this quilt? Will it be a comfort quilt for you, or a wall quilt? Please post your progress. This sounds like a very comforting project to work through your sorrow. Bless you. |
I agree...find fabric that when you see it, it says "Mom"
My sympathy for your loss. I lost mine 3 yrs ago and i still find myself reaching for the phone to call her! The quilt project will be a great healing tool for you. Hope to see the pics when you finish!!! |
Hi and welcome from Texas.
As for your Italian theme, maybe some tomatoes and wine for starters??? You might check Bearpaw Quilting.com online for themed fabrics, and get some better ideas?? |
Hello and welcome from Ontario. So sorry for the loss of your mother. I like the idea of making list of things that you remember about her and that make you think of her and finding fabrics that represent each item on your list. It will have a great deal of meaning and it might be a little less painful than if you were to use actual pictures, etc. so soon after your loss.

Do you have any of her clothing? you could use that in your quilt. I made a quilt for a friend who's son was killed out of his clothing and she wanted his ties in it. I use the ties for sashing and the binding. Use the memories.

That is a good idea. I am afraid I will be all over the place with this. She was so talented. But it is a place to start. Thank you.

Once I sort out material, I can incorporate some of her clothing in it as well. My friend Pat did one for her daughter out of her husband's flannel shirts. Quite the piece and handsewn as well.

I am new at this so I quess it will take a while to do.
