Hello all! Being fairly new to the board (mostly hang out in chat) I would like to get some thoughts and opinions on organization.
I have a six foot shelf with six shelves that are 28 inches side by 11 inches deep. DH drilled and placed dowels through the shelves to provide stability for fabric stacks. This shelf is only for cotton fabrics, no flannels. Fabrics are ruler folded and stacked by colors. The bottom shelf holds baskets of fat quarters, by color. Next to last shelf holds backing fabrics and some special fabrics set aside. I then have another shelf full of labelled containers containing all the cut pieces of scraps using my accuquilt go cutter.
Then, in the closet with wire shelves I have containers of special fabrics that I don't want anyone to help themselves to (fabrics I'm holding for special quilts-grandbaby quilts-etc) and UFO's and WIP's as well as two stacks of quilt tops, one to be machine quilted and the other to be handquilted. I recently decided to change the 6 ft shelf and have removed all the fabrics that are under one yard and folded them smaller. I put them in the fat quarters baskets at the ends of the rows, but not sure I am too fond of it. Looks like I have hardly any fabrics now! I am attaching a picture of it, but you can't see the last two shelves. That's the before picture and will attach an after picture as well.
How do you like to have your fabric organized???
And, in your cottons, fo you have a size cut-off, or do you just mix it all???

With 1/2 yards and up.

WOW! Sure looks organized to me.

I'm trying to be more efficient with it, but can't decide which way will work best.

I kinda like the idea of smaller pieces on the ends. That way if you were doing a small project you wouldn't have to pull out of the large section and open them up. Great job!

Looks like you have done a great job organizing. I put my 1/2 to 5 yard pieces together, my over 5 yard pieces in another cabinet and my fat quarters and less than a half yard are in a rolling drawer unit.

Looks like you are pretty organized already! Nice stash! That is pretty much the way I do mine, too.

WOW! I only WISH my stash looked that neat! I think you have done a wonderful job!

WOW I wish I had the time to organize like you

My stash (which I just started a few days ago) is currently sitting in three plastic grocery bags on a chair in my living room. LOL

Yours looks gorgeous either way. I'd go with whatever works best for you and/or you like the most. If it really bugs you to have it the second way, switch it back!

Wow! I don't think mine will ever be that organized! But I am sure proud of my fellow Montanan!!! (Some of us will take credit wherever we can get it)!
