I wouldn't have believed this if I hadn't tasted the results myself.

I always buy Pure Cane Sugar but I saw a sale at a local grocery for sugar that was a good buy. I have made a gallon of sweet tea several times a week for years so I know my sweet tea. I always use 1 1/2 cups of sugar per gallon. I made a gallon of tea, used 1 1/2 cups of the sale sugar and it tasted too unsweet for us. I added more sugar and it took over 2 cups to get the same taste as before. I looked on the package of sugar and it wasn't pure cane sugar and I believe it was beet sugar with filler added. DD made a batch of cookies that always tasted great. She used the sale sugar and the cookies turned out flat and dough tasting. The sale sugar wasn't a good bargain at all. Be careful of sugar that isn't pure cane sugar, you are wasting your money especially if you use it in your baking.

Thanks for the info! Sounds like this wouldn't be good for making the hummingbird food either.

I've never heard of this before- thanks!

I had the family do a taste test and everyone picked the sale sugar as being not very sugar tasting compared to the pure cane sugar. If the package doesn't say pure cane sugar it's not.

yes, some just say granulated sugar. I try to get can if possible.

Always read the bag of sugar...you want real CANE sugar, not beet sugar.
The Cane Sugar farmers in FL are having a hard time staying afloat. Once they go out of business, no cane sugar will be grown in the USA, only in central america or overseas.
Domino's and C & H are cane sugar,

I have a cousin that can only have pure cane sugar. The other gives her migraines. Wonder if it is something that is added to it??

Thanks for the warning.

Walmart Great Value is pure cane sugar. It's a few dollars cheaper then C&H. I'll check and see if I can find if the Great Value sugar is from the US. I'm pretty sure it is because C&H probably packages it for Walmart since Walmart sells only the C&H sugar along side their brand.
