Cool

Somewhat off topic (not about a UFO)...

I work for Duke Energy, and we have offices in several states. Well, one of the things they have done is set up a place on their website for the customers to learn other stuff about Duke employees... like one lady who is a quilter! (Here's the link if you're interested: http://illumination.duke-energy.com/ and here's the quilter's story - 4th paragraph down the page: http://illumination.duke-energy.com/...gineering-life )

Anyway, I saw the story about one of our engineers down in Florida (I work in NC), so I contacted her. She has actually published some patterns, and sent me one for FREE. Isn't that great?!?
No matter where we go, if you look for just a little bit, you'll find another quilter!!

Default Finally...a finish!!

Here is a quilt I finished this afternoon. I started the star blocks in Jan 2014. They are Carol Doak's Fifty Fabulous Stars (well 12 of them).

Love, love, love it carriem.

The lady who is long arming the star flower has a number of quilts to do so I told her that that one could wait because they are not given out until the end of the year. So it will be an UFO for awhile longer. So it goes.

The christmas wreath is coming right along so I may have something to show for this month and next month. Wouldn't that be cool?

Oooh, CarrieM, your quilt is just exquisite. I love everything about it. The colors are just luscious and the setting really makes it special. Wonderful!

Carriem, how did you quilt it? Stars are so fun to quilt, I like to look at other's ideas on how they do them. Nice finish. That is pretty for sure. I bet that is a nice load off the shoulders to have that one done. Paper piecing is not my thing and admire those who stick to it.

I have my drunkard path blocks all put together. Finally figured out a bit of a color scheme to get the blocks and fabrics to work. They are 18". Who figure that one. So I have my setting squares cut, need to applique some drunkard path arches on those and then will stitch them down tonight and get the top sewn. Have to figure out a border or I just may leave it. Once together may have to have some input. I ordered in a quilting stencil to use for the setting blocks quilting design. Should be pretty when done even though it has ugly, old fabrics.

QuilterMomma--Nothing fancy on the stars...if you look at the solid blocks in between that is all I did on the stars too. I haven't mastered FM quilting and figured the stars were pretty enough with just SITD. I went down the diagonal both directions and side to side. Did NOT go from top to bottom just to make the solid squares have a little more interest. I really wanted to quilt a butterfly in each of the solid blocks...even found one online very similar to the ones in the fabric and traced it/tried a couple times. I couldn't get the wings to match so decided this was my best way to do it and be happy with it.

Congratulations on your spectacular finish, carriem. I love how the bright aqua shines out from the darker colors!
