I finished the 25 12" blocks and laid them out on a bed. Now that I'm working on the sashing, I'm becoming intimidated and overwhelmed by the sheer size. I usually make lap/twin quilts because I have a small space. If you're making a half size quilt, how many blocks are you including and are you including the stringed sashing?

I''ve started sewing the strips together. The more I get together, the better I'm liking it. Not sure what I'm going to do for a border, but I still have a lot of greens strips that I'd love to use up.

I only made 12. Included the sashing and the borders. It came out a large twin. 65 x 80 ish.

Mkotch, I also decided on 12 blocks. I saw several 3x4s on Quiltville, and I really like the proportion. I am planning on the same width of sashing with the nine patches, but am making some modifications and have decided not to use my string blocks.

I had made roughly 0.6 of the units each week. That was slightly too many for a 3 x 4 block layout, but not quite enough for a 4x4 layout. So I made a few more of everything to work for the 4x4 layout. I used yardage rather than stringing, so my sashing units are solid rather than stringed, but I am including them.

As I started assembling, I will admit it was a bit overwhelming, but I'm just focusing on one row at a time and it is coming together nicely. I'm on the fence about the outer border - I don't have strings, so it'll either be solid, or I'll just stop at the thin green border.

I made enough for a 4x4. I'm not doing the string sashing. Mine will be scrappy grays. I think I will make a few more blocks to make it 5x5.

So many pretty quilts coming together! They all look happy!
I had to stop-waiting on more of my sashing fabric to arrive. I am doing 12 blocks plus a few borders. I think I will do a 3” border of sashing fabric, then maybe a piano key type border with the blue rectangles that I cut and did not use in the quilt.

I had to make more flying geese, and I used Bonnie’s strip method and cut with angle ruler. I don’t have her ruler, but found one among my unused “stuff”that works the same way, and I will use this method from now on! No trimming necessary!
