Chelalis and Sandra-P, thanks for the kind words. I only hope I have enough contrast between the purples and the turquoises I am using. I really wanted to go all jewel tones, and I didn't know what kind of orange would work with them.
AmyBible, your quilt is going to be very striking. This was the first time I had made string blocks, and I enjoyed it. I didn't have many strings of the right color, so I had to cut most of them. I found out that I wasn't a very good judge of spacing and ended up with a few blocks with too-skinny strips on the end. I decided to make extras so I have some options.

Here are my mild-mannered clue 5s -- still have to clip dog ears and check for size. For my second quilt clue 5s, I had to switch to the squares method, because using the triangle rulers was killing my back -- I guess because it took me so long to position the ruler for each cut.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all!

joe's mom, are you cutting on a standard height table? Unless you are cutting all day a higher table makes the process pretty pain free. You can get bed risers from any department store for about twenty bucks and stick them under the legs of your table.
I only say because my back gives me fits and it really made a difference when I bought a cutting table, but I used a card table and bed risers when I was away from home for a couple of years. Mine was 149.99 at JoAnn's and I used a 50% off coupon. I expect they are higher now, but please consider one.
Look at this photo https://www.joann.com/sullivans-adju...1.html#start=1
I'll bet if this photo shoot took more than a 1/2 hour her back hurt! Sitting and cutting = ouch

Finished with my clue. Because I'm making the top bigger I've been making an extra 20 clues. I couldn't figure out if for this clue I actually needed 40 extra So I did 40...

Those bed risers work great. My bee uses them for the ironing table on sew days.

KalamaQ, I do have a cutting table. Cutting these bothered my back more than usual; I think I must have been stooping to peer at the placement, plus it took a long time to position the ruler for each cut.

Maybe it's just me, but toward the end of a big set of blocks, I get frustrated and give a pass to an individual block when I shouldn't. But here is my clue # 5 all done. I was putting them in a baggie when I notice that the last two I did were the wrong orientation. Oh dear. I've counted them so many times, they are shop worn. I used the blue berry fabric for all but a variety of oranges and neutrals.

Wow! I am loving everyone's color combinations. I hope to finish the chevron clue and start clue 5 tomorrow.

Default Chevrons

Has anyone used paper piecing for the chevrons? I am having trouble with them and was wondering if anyone has a paper piecing template.
