From the heavier fabrics, you can do quilts for your local shelters. I would make sure the satin is washable, if not, sell it on ebay - or in your local paper. The knit fabrics make a very warm quilt, but again test wash strips. My mil made alot of quilts from polyester squares - when she passed we donated them to the men's shelter as they wash and dried well. Quilts do not have to be 100% cotton.

I've managed to stay out of the quilt stores, I've organized my stash....the downfall is now that I've been digging out my UFO's and this is VERY discouraging. Some things I don't even recognize! I walked out of the sewing room & closed the door. Need to regroup before going back in! Seems like it's more fun to collect fabric! :)

Okay, I sort of fell off but I think it is one of the "okay" slips. My DIL called me last night because she needed backing from CT. Did I need/want anything? I love the Rhapsody in Red but last summer bought a red/white kit from a man whose wife had died. I "let" myself buy the backing for this quilt. It helped my DIL get free shipping, allowed me to have a small bit of that lovely collection and kept me from adding to my stash. But I did buy....

Irishrose and MaryLane.. You aren't alone in loving CT's Rhapsody in Red. My magazine is still sitting on the table and I drool over it but I have resisted. If it is so good, perhaps they will do it again later when I have caught up. I have found that one way to help myself not think about buying anything else is to go into my sowing room and sort fabrics. I see so many scraps that I can make something out of so that is my best way of staying on the wagon. I did order 2 yards of a pretty green from a Joann email but that is for the quilt our guild is doing at our retreat this fall and I know that was not on my moratorium list so not feeling bad.

Yay Me!!! Went to my meeting this morning at the LQS. Walked right past the markdown area, and glanced in that direction, but didn't touch anything. I purchased a ruler and my buck-a-block for January (need to keep them in business!!) but no fabric.
Now my next dilemma is that I'm looking for a new project. Many of the quilting magazines are featuring quilts with a lot of white and I'm smitten. Of course, I have like 1 yard of wow. Do you think these white quilts would have the same impact if I use a darker beige, as I don't have enough yardage of any light neutral? Is it the white, or just a large expanse of one color that makes the impact? They all look so summery...

PaperPrincess, it's your thread, but I think you can buy the white if you 'need' it. I also think I beige would look good if there is plenty of contrast. I have been looking at a magazine with a quilt on the cover with a light green background - it looks so springy. I am planning a simple quilt with a dark beige background and scrappy fabrics, but I'm not particularly thinking summer. If you are smitten with the white, buy just enough for one quilt - that way, you aren't adding to your stash.

Thanks for the support irishrose. I would feel comfortable making a purchase for a specific quilt. I won't be able to start my next project for at least a week, however, so I'm going to continue to look and see if there's something else that piques my interest. If I do decide to go with one of the ones shown in white, I think I will make a sample block with one of my other neutrals first to see if I have one that will work, or do I really "need" the white...

I went into Joann's today when we were in Green Bay. My mission was to get some sock yarn, but they didn't have what I needed. However, I do get kudos for not purchasing some sock yarn I liked. I have yarn at home which needs to be used first. I thought of you....

My purchases were plastic containers at $4.99 each to store precuts and WIPs. Even then, I limited my selection to three. If I need something later, I'll consider the need/want. This discussion of decluttering, scrappy projects, fabric moratorium and finishing UFO's has been realistic and rewarding. Thank you!

Spent a day out with my mother yesterday....drove past her local quilt shop....completely resisted the several bags of velvets/brocades/potential crazy quilt fabrics at one of the many charity shops we visited.....only came home with a new scraps bucket for the kitchen and a long top/dress which fits perfectly and will do nicely for when I pick up DH from the airport on Monday....mind you I did say out loud "you do not need this fabric" when I spotted that ever so tempting bag ...had to explain to Mum I was not going dotty but was on a fabric and quilting magazine moratorium:)
