I have made 2 Turning Twenty quilts and love making them. Since I last posted, I have been really good and not bought anything. Even looked through the CT catalog and I can live without all of it (but I still kick myself for not ordering when they had that fabulous red collection a couple months ago.) So my goal is to make it through July without buying anything either. Hanging onto the wagon tightly!

Goodness girls, I feel pretty good, I went to Bayside Quilting in Olympia on Sunday with my MIL and only bought the stencil I need to mark a quilt. That was a tough ordeal. She just laughed at me. I made it thru because I knew I had bought three bolts of fabric this month to work with my scraps and a Dear Jane quilt with my brights and batik scraps.

I just found this thread. I tried to get my quilty friends I go to shopping with to do something like this. They are hopeless and awful enablers.

Are there any rules to this challenge?

What are the allowed fabric purchases? Another group with a similar challenge allows backing, batting, background purchases and have a penalty of a FQ for non-legal purchases.

Are purchases for immediate use in warm hug (donation) quilts ok? Kids prints for my 93yr old Mom to turn into tops for a group in Colorado? I can get carried away with cute kids prints, especially frogs, bugs, butterflies, etc.

I definitely need the support and encouragement of a group like this!

HEHEHE- Rules?? Try not to buy and fabric unless you can create a new and interesting excuse!! If you need something specific to complete a project it's OK- If you are making a special request quilt, it's OK, Of course if it is your birthday, or you are on vacation, that's OK too. There are many hear that will help you with the development of a good sounding reason that you HAD to buy that fabric!! On the serious side, you try to work from your stash. I see a great excuse you can use!! You blame all fabric purchases on Mom!! Glad to have you join us!

So, no rules, try to use stash. Do people post pictures of stash quilts? I went back a few pages but no quilts :-(

That's coz we keep falling off the wagon. Instead of working on projects we increase the hoard - ahem, I mean stash.

Playswithcolor: Usually we don't post pictures of our quilts, but I bet there is not one of us that wouldn't like to see.

June 26 and no purchases this month!! Woohoo!! I just finished a quilt totally from stash - fabric, batting, thread, etc. The last one I purchased 5/8 of a yard for binding, so things are going okay for me. Truth is I haven't had much time to go to any fabric store and that helps.

And here I was trying to encourage everybody to play with the current stash and hold out longer before purchasing anything more without being judgemental. We are in this together. Guess I worded that last one wrong. I'll try again with enabler free language (I hope).....Go sort your stash and organize it when tempted to buy more. Each day you wait longer to buy fabric and use what you have is an individual triumph and the building blocks for completing the month and then the year without purchases. How is that EmmaS? ;)
