For the rest of the year I am seriously off task but plan on finishing those 8 UFO's in 2014.

I think any and all progress is great and you finished some big ones Emma! I'm planning to work hard on UFOs through the winter and then dial it back to 1 a month and that will be wonderful... as long as I keep finishing what I start that is.

Yes, I do. I really HAVE to finish that quilt on the frame that I'm hand quilting..... and the OBO that I started 5 years ago. I have that BOM from 6 years ago and my daughter's cathedral window that I started for her 25th wedding anniversary. Oh my, that was 2 years ago. Where does the time go?

Then, I have some quilts that I've promised to people..... a baby quilt for my cousin's 1st grandbaby, 2 great nephew quilts (the last great nephews of 9), 1 great niece ( the last of 7) and I'm done..... Yeah!!!

That's 8 quilts, total.... I can do that, can't I?? I think I can, I think I can..... I really have to try!

nanna-up-north 12-15-2013 04:06 AM

That is a really great Christmas quilt, simple life. One of the first quilts I ever made was a Christmas quilt and I get it out every year to add a festive touch to the living room.... and it's so nice to cuddle under when the snow is flying around like yesterday. Do you still have a few to finish before the new year? I really love all the quilts you've posted this year..... I think I've said it before. You really have an eye for putting fabrics together. .... really nice.

wildyard 12-15-2013 09:01 AM

I'm thinking we should talk to admin about this becoming a permanent thread here on QB. LOL, seems like there will always be a need for this great cheering and support group!

Emma S 12-15-2013 09:04 AM

Wildyard: I so agree. Not only great people but beautiful quilts. I really don't understand why they ever became UFOs.

Elisabrat 12-16-2013 05:58 AM

this is my goal for 2014. My only resolution. I will put all my ufos together before I join one more swap. I have at least 4 quilts that need putting together sashing and such and well that is my least favorite part of quilt making.. so it goes in this nice bin I close the top and tada.. out of site out of mind.. not going to allow this to continue. I will make those quilts. (I hope) so yes please run this forum again for 2014. I will be right here with all of you. And I will do it. remind me ok?? lol

Emma S 12-16-2013 06:03 AM

Elisabrat: The various quilt alongs and mystery quilts are my downfalls too. I happen to know that you are an enabler since I am going to give in to your medallion quilt along you are organizing. Shame on you! LOL

QuilterMomma 12-16-2013 08:40 AM

Agreed on keeping this one up. I need to finish up those UFOs that did not get done this year. I do have some unfortunately. If I put all the fabric collected for those WIPs, then I would be about caught up. These have been very pretty quilts that turned to UFOs. Sometimes I think we just do like Emma, get side tracked and see all the new pretty ones and feel we need to start them. That is mee. I see the next new thing and say wow, let me do that.
For next year, I am only doing three projects that are new. That is my argyle bargello, a Linda Martin log cabin, and Graduation Memory Quilt for daughter. I have all the supplies for these, just have to do them now. Plus, they will be going into show so they will be special. If I can finish up those UFOs on my list, I will definitely have some show quilts from them.

carriem 12-16-2013 08:46 AM

I am planning to start the 50 Fabulous Stars quilt and Dear Jane in 2014. Otherwise will just continue finishing up UFOs...need to make a list of what I have left.

asimplelife--that's a fun Christmas quilt! Great idea to finish two tops as one quilt. :)

Emma S 12-16-2013 08:53 AM

Carrie: Uuuuuh just wanted to point out that those two quilts could be a year project all by themselves. Well we will be here to root you on. Quilters, always ready for a challenge.

carriem 12-16-2013 09:17 AM

Emma--I am doing the 50 Stars as a BOW. DJ, I am not planning to make all the blocks. I want to make 2 smaller quilts...one using just the triangle blocks (there is a sample in the book I really like) and then enough of the square blocks for a large lap/twin size. I have fabric for the squares already, so that is what I will work on in 2014. Can't decide for sure what fabric I want for the triangles...that might wait until 2015! :)

QuilterMomma 12-16-2013 01:29 PM

Those are my WIPs carriem. I have a bag with all the fabric needed for the DJ with the book and template. I am still on the fence about the 50 Stars. Will see how I want to progress on that one. Not a real PP. I have them all printed, just not done. I have a couple Jinny Beyer BOM quilts also for the last two years with the fabric all together and ready to go. Those are on my 2014 list of to dos.

Elisabrat 12-16-2013 05:40 PM

I am using one big center I already had made for my medallion quilt along :) it was started in memory of my mom good idea just got .. put into a box and stayed there. This is to push me into finishing it and using some of my already purchased fabrics. I buy but have no use for what I buy but one day kind of shopping. one yard of this one of that. never enough to .. finish anything. So medallion quilts round robin style will allow me to use up some of those fabrics plus a whole lot of my scraps. I even gave up my table runner swap for the beginning of the year to another member so I can get this stuff going. those four booms talk at me all day long.. get your tail over here! cut some sashing why don't you! I hide under my pillow, la la la cant hear you. However they keep talking so its time to just get them done. And those panels we all buy. I have three right now.. no plans for those. I so want to bring my stash down to a single shelf. Shop for what you need not just what impulsively hits you. Its a wish. Its my 2014 goal. I believe I can do it. I am pretty much a mule when I decide on something. so.. watch me I will win over my ufo's yet.

mom-6 12-17-2013 04:54 PM

A single shelf?!?
Oh my goodness I dont think i could ever do that. Unless the shelf was 50 feet long. Lol!
Of course not all of mine is just for quilting. I have a good bit of tapestry and drapery/ upholstery fabric as well as fleece, corduroy, and denim.

Emma S 12-17-2013 06:04 PM

Have to admit, had to go back and read about your "single shelf". I'm embarrassed to admit my stash resides in four six foot book shelves, two walk in closets with shelves on all walls and assorted plastic tubs for scraps.

Everose 12-17-2013 07:01 PM

A "single shelf"? I'm like Emma, I have a hug room stuffed. We are moving in a little over a year, so I really need to get a handle on the fabric - if I donate the UFO's to someone who does them for charity, does that count as doing them? Maybe not. But I sure will feel good about not having to pack them up and transport them across country.

Emma S 12-18-2013 05:47 AM

Everose: Of course that counts, you may not be finished but your finished, if you know what I mean. I moved a couple of years ago and was horrified at how many boxes of fabric I packed. The worst is how heavy they are. My advise is stick to medium size boxes, the weight splits the larger ones. I've solved the problem, I just won't move again.

michelleoc 12-20-2013 09:13 AM

Beautiful finishes ladies, we are coming down to the end of the year and I'm DETERMINED for finish a couple more quilts before then. But rather than sewing I'm enjoying the photos of all your great work. My new saying? PROCRASTINATE NOW!

QuilterMomma 12-20-2013 10:05 AM

Will not be finishing any UFOs this year. I will though, however, be working hard next year for the last of the UFOs and do some of my WIPs. My focus will be more on how I finish them so I can make them into the show quilts they are. Looking forward to following our thread for 2014.
Asimplelife, you did awesome on busting down that stack of UFOs this year, congrats.
Emma, the projects you finished this year as so beautiful and wonderfully made. You pat yourself on the back.
If you go back thru the year on the projects we finished. I think we all need an extra special CONGRATS!!!!! Some of those were old and some not so much, but they are finished quilts.

wildyard 12-21-2013 06:14 PM

Yayyyyyy!!! I finished my DGD's plaid quilt! I am calling it Plaid Patches. I posted the photos on the Pictures thread, so here is the link. http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...ml#post6468000

I started collecting and cutting the fabric for this quilt at this time last year. It got set aside for some other projects, plus both new knees. I'm so happy I still got it in under the wire this year!

carriem 12-21-2013 06:54 PM

wildyard--great job getting one more quilt in this year! Looks like lots of fun plaids.

Emma S 12-21-2013 07:56 PM

Wildyard, such a fun, light and airy quilt. Fleece on the back, that's going to be a snuggle down and get warm quilt!

nanna-up-north 12-22-2013 05:59 AM

Yeah, wildyard..... another one finished before the new year.

QuilterMomma 12-22-2013 08:30 AM

Yipppeeeee Wildyard. Feels good I am sure!

Dresden Plate quilts made from Poinsettia and Snowflake swap

Here are pictures of lap sized quilts with blocks made from this swap, Dresden Plate Poinsettia and Snowflake swap.

The Poinsettia quilt is hung up in the living room for the Christmas season. DH really likes it as does one of my adult DDs that stopped by today.

The snowflake quilt was gifted to my 15 year old daughter who came to live with us at the age of 11 yrs. She really liked the snowflake blocks. What is interesting is that we do not have snow here and half of her life she lived on a tropical island. She is always cold! These are snowflakes she can enjoy and that keep her warm. She loves the quilt and has been using it since she received it last night.

The fabrics used to complete the quilt are pretty old but I really liked the snowman print I used on the back of the snowflake quilt.

Anna cute! I recognize some of those poinsettias! Maybe I can finish mine for next year? Very pretty!

Fraew 12-25-2013 08:41 PM

Nicely done Anna!

Emma S 12-26-2013 05:36 AM

Anna: Both quilts are outstanding. Great work and great finishes!

nanna-up-north 12-26-2013 06:07 AM

Oh, it's wonderful, Anna. I love holiday quilts.... so festive, and what a wonderful way to use those Dresden plate blocks..... and happy holidays to you, too.

oksewglad 12-26-2013 10:48 AM

Pretty quilts

carriem 12-26-2013 12:27 PM

Anna--great job finishing up these quilts before the end of the year. I especially like the blue one.

Annaquilts 12-26-2013 12:58 PM

I did some dense quilting but putting the top together was a breeze of course since all the blocks were already made. I would love to see what others make with the swap blocks. I still have to put the Civil War blocks from one of Deb Watkins swaps together also. That one looks promising and I did use two blocks already in making a really cute top that is now on the frame.

Thank you all for your kind words and responses. :D

I have two more quilts, big ones, I got done but I need pictures.

I feel really motivated to get more UFOs done come 2014. I hope I stay focused.

MadQuilter 12-29-2013 12:39 PM

This has probably been asked and answered but I didn't see: Will there be a UFO 2014 thread? I hope so.

Yesterday I decided to address the state of my UFOs and when I stood in front of the leaning tower of tops, I became totally overwhelmed. Instead of just picking one, I slunk into my sewing room and added a final border to a donation quilt top. In essence, I added another UFO to the pile. I need to really pay attention to my poor finished tops next year. Not a resolution - just a fact.

One more to check off. It's a community service quilt for my guild. We take them to local hospitals for the children's wards. It started from leftover squares but then I found the center to be too small and boring. So I added the mitered stripe from my stash and really like the way it ended. It's about 35" square. Used the back turned forward for the binding (something I just learned in the Craftsy "Finishing" class) and used a serpentine stitch to do the quilting.

Comin' Down the Chimney from the Nov/Dec 2012 McCall's Quilting.M&M (my addiction!) table topper. The fabric was given to me by a friend.

So, my UFO status - I started with 65 UFOs, and I think I'm down to 45. Nothing like ASimpleLife accomplished, but still!
Great job on the finishes, everyone! Who is starting the thread for 2014? I have to say I have loved the SpongeBob quilt being the first post for 2013 - I always know I'm in the right place. I'm having company for a few days, but am looking forward to checking in at the end of the week.
HAPPY NEW YEAR, EVERYONE!

oksewglad 12-30-2013 04:14 PM

Nice to see some more finishes. I wish I had more finishes than starts this year. Hopefully next year will be more positive! Yes we need a UFO challenge for 2014.

wildyard 12-30-2013 05:15 PM

I posted the Challenge for 2014, if I did everything right and it makes it past moderation, we'll be up and running in 2014! Look forward to seeing you all there next year! Hugs and smilesssss..............

Annaquilts 01-01-2014 08:54 AM

Michelle and Martina, some nice quilts finished. This thread really helps me in digging up those UFOs and getting them done. I am glad it is continuing.

links123 01-03-2014 04:34 AM

I really dislike UFO designs on quilts. It seems as if some outer planetry object is coming to you. It makes me afraid.
