I have completed 5 UFOs. Of course, they're just 10 minute table runners but they're finished. :)

SandyinZ4 01-01-2015 02:35 PM

Raggiemom...Woo Hoo! FIVE toots of the whistle for you. I think yours are the first of many completed projects we all hope to see on this thread this year. Hoping someone can help me keep track of the count! I am so glad that so many of you are jumping on board. :-)

Have finished 2 projects today. The first one is a wall hanging I started 2 years ago " House Blessing".
The 2nd is a food mat I started for our little fur baby last Christmas.

oksewglad 01-01-2015 06:15 PM

What a start...way to go.

I'm working on a huge UFO and starting and hope to finish a small quilt....Let's get the new year started right.

Krisb 01-01-2015 06:19 PM

Well--I did complete a few tops, even entire quilts in 2014, but there are always more. So we start 2015 with two pieced tops, backing ready and binding ready. If only someone else would sandwich them. And my aunt's creative version of a dresden plate that has 17 wedges (think either her eyesight was going or she just was chain piecing up a storm and got one extra in one quarter on each block). Taking out one and "cheating" the seams to get them to lie flat.

I did finish one today. It's the Jeweled Forest pattern from McCalls from a few years ago. And it's all from my scraps, so feeling pretty self-righteous now. The colors are a little muddy in the picture.

I'm in...last year I listed 32 (only about 1/2 of what I actually have)...finished 22. It spurs me on knowing I'm with others in the same boat & we are all working towards the same goal...getting the UFO's finished! And happy new year everyone!!!

VickiM 01-01-2015 06:39 PM

Krisb...love the colors in your wallhanging...very nice job on it.

Since others have posted, I'll post too. The first is Vanilla & Bloom from Fig Tree. I drafted out the pattern and made mine a little smaller. It was a lead/ender project so was on my design wall for 6 months!!

The 2nd one is the Mystery Train 7 quilt. Hope you enjoy them!

This may be just what I need to empty some of the containers I have...each is labeled with everything there to finish. :)

Raggiemom ~ Great work! They look like they would be fun for different holidays.

gramquilter2 ~ Very nice wall hanging and food mat.

Krisb ~ The Jeweled Forest is beautiful!

Jane ~ You’re doing lovely work, too!

I haven’t tackled anything yet except the craftermath in the studio. I really need to do some “purging” before I can get back to any UFOs. I put it in quotes because I’m not very good at it. My idea of purging and others’ might be totally different. I did manage to get three bags of yarn, fabric and cross stitch items out to the garage for Goodwill today, though. Then, during a football game, I worked on a felt kit Christmas stocking that will be for DSonIL.

kristijoy 01-01-2015 07:45 PM

I'm in! I finished a binding late last night, my last finish of 2014! I've got 4 others in progress right now and 2 more hanging out in my brain. I pulled fabric for one of them this morning!

coffeecozy 01-02-2015 06:31 AM

I am really happy to climb on board because my ufo luggage is getting kinda bulky.
Congratulations to those of you that already have finishes to post. I haven't done any sewing yet this year so I'm really jealous.
I need to focus on finishing the quilting on my son's quilt so that is my goal for January.

quilt addict 01-02-2015 09:42 AM

Congratulations on all the early finishers! What a way to start the new year. I hope to finish a binding tonight so I will have my first done also. The goal was to finish before year end but the flu slowed me down.

WMUTeach 01-02-2015 09:43 AM

Krisb, Love the Jeweled Forrest and your color choices but...... I will not start it, I will not start it, I will not start it. Oh, no, I won't until I attack and conquer some of the UFO in my pile. Why should I add another when I have so many to finish now? :o Congrats on one off the list.

carriem 01-02-2015 10:17 AM

Congrats to all that were able to get a project finished already this year!!! YAY!!!!!

playswithcolor 01-02-2015 11:19 AM

I started the new year off by finishing a UFO! I'm glad that i had the flimsy in my stack when I was asked for a quilt for a 4 yr old boy. It's a warm wishes pattern that has a bug print for the focus fabric. I finished hand stitching the binding at 1:30 am this morning.

Now i get to start my color & design challenge project for January.

oldcatlady 01-02-2015 11:36 AM

I'm hopping on board! I have so many ufo's. When I joined the board I started doing all kinds of swaps and haven't done anything with them until now. I finished a Halloween quilt on the 31st so missed it for this year but happy to get started. My goal this year is to get all those swap blocks done!

retiredteacher09 01-02-2015 06:01 PM

I'm in again this year! I did get a few UFO's done last year but I started more projects than I finished. Thankfully most of my projects are baby quilts and someone else will tie them. My projects are in lots of different stages but I at least have them written down now so I know what needs to get done.

I will have some new starts as I have a wallhanging and quilt to do for a niece's wedding and, of course, Judy's Mystery train.

Leslie333 01-02-2015 06:24 PM

I need to climb on board, reluctantly. I have a couple of UFOs that are unfinished because I can't find the right fabric to complete them. Those are probably pretty doable once I find the right thing. Then there are the UFOs from "quilting phase 1" that were put in UFO status more than 10 years ago before my 10 year break from quilting. I don't even know what all there is, so need to start by figuring it out!

It's a small step, but I finished this last night. Fabrics are from some I bought back in '93. Quilt was pieced about 10 years ago. All I needed to do was quilt and bind it. My small piecing has improved so much since this was sewn and I did a quick job of straight line stitching. Okay off to find another UFO..gotta be a small one as right now don't have time for a bigger one.

jwardknits 01-03-2015 04:20 PM

I am in again this year. I completed so many last year and enjoyed seeing everyone's great work.

jwardknits 01-03-2015 04:23 PM

Great job, oksewglad. This is a pretty quilt.

I agree with this ===love it, makes me want to make one like it but I have to work on ufo's lol

SandyinZ4 01-03-2015 07:27 PM

Oksewglad...love the Christmas table topper/quilt. It is lovely and how nice to have one more thing finished! I am on the last side of the binding of quilt that will be my first finish of the new year. After I put the label on, I will post a picture.

givio 01-03-2015 07:53 PM

Wow, it's only January 3rd, and there are already 60 posts!
I'm hoping to completely finish one quilt per month this year.
...Starting in February. lol

givio 01-03-2015 07:59 PM

oksewglad, My mother had 2 of that type of desk in the family room. My dad put slanted wood blocks under the feet to make the top surface level. She used them for end tables by the couch. Your picture brought back memories for me... I like the scrappy look of your little quilt, with all scrappy yellow stars. I like a lot of the 80's and 90's fabrics. Very cute piece, well done!

Thanks everyone....givio, this desk was in my country school--it was one of the last country schools in the late 60's still open. When the school closed, my sister and I each got a desk...We shared a bedroom and we used them to do homework at. I like the slanted block idea, thanks--the angled top makes it hard to display items.

Marich52 01-03-2015 09:30 PM

If you have any trouble finding one oksewglad, just let me know....I can send you one of mine. Bwahahahaha. Love that border fabric!

Oksewnsew 01-03-2015 09:49 PM

Boy, spent many any hour sitting in one of those desks.. I had long hair back then, and the girl (should I say BRAT) that set behind me would always dip my pigtails in her ink well!!! She was still mean when we went into town to 'the big school', often wondered if the bad things she did ever caught up with her..lolo

I have one of those desks, and I have 2 dominoes glued to the feet to make it level. Hey, they're black, and they fit perfectly..lol I've used mine as an end table, night stand or just a table. One of my keepsakes for sure.

I have two major UFO's that I desperately need to finish. One is a tumbling block quilt (queen size) I started for my youngest son in 2012.

This one is almost done.. hopefully will get the binding on today.

Nelco 01-04-2015 06:39 PM

count me in on this as my 2015 resolution is finish my UFO'. I did get one top done already. Need to find the backing and someone to quilt it. And have my 2nd one up on my design wall.

kristakz 01-04-2015 08:21 PM

Is there a sister thread this year for discussing UFO progress before they get completed?

WMUTeach 01-05-2015 06:23 AM

Well, gal pals, I have already fallen off my planned pace. I have about 12 inches to do on a binding that has been sitting looking at me for....5 days!! I must get this done! A long armed nearly king sized quilt is due to arrive any day now and that will need a really LONGGGGGGG binding. And there is the guild exchange block quilt, last year's mystery quilt and, and, and.... I get over whelmed with the list. OK, just one UFO at a time. I hear you saying. Stop, breath and pick up the needle. Can I stay home from work if I promise to just finish one UFO quilt? :o

Fraew 01-05-2015 06:51 AM

Stay home and finish! Approved.

weasier22 01-05-2015 10:26 AM

Count me in! Happy to be working along side of each of you ... in a manner of speaking! I have several large quilts to complete and lots of little projects to be finished. This is the year to get them done so that i can start new projects. Hopefully I won't start too many ... I'll just end up with more UFOs! It's a big circle but I haven't gotten dizzy yet. Today I'm going to work on a back for a baby quilt. Incorporating pictures of the baby on the back. Think I'll use a pinking rotary blade for the edges of the framing around the pictures & just sew them onto the backing. Happy New Year to everyone and happy quilting!

Hi Kristakz..You can always start a new thread to discuss anything quilting related. If you do, put a link to it here so we can all follow.

Sherryquilts 01-05-2015 07:29 PM

I'm in too. I have lots of starts that need to be completed. Last weekend I laid out and measured 8 tops and either matched them up with backing or planned a scrappy backing (I am currently string piecing one back) or made a list of for fabric that needs to be purchased. I went to a local quilt store that was having a sale and found 2 fabrics at 75% off that will work. I also planned out 2 borders for 2 more UFOs. Then there's the stack of 5 quilts that are basted waiting to be quilted next to my new Tiara. Apparently she doesn't work without me by her side. Yikes, I'd better get off here and get started! I also presented a challenge to the quilt group that I belong to - for each of us to finish 5 UFOs. SO - good luck everyone, congratulations to the finished already for 2015!

MadQuilter 01-05-2015 07:49 PM

Those pics already posted sure are pretty. It is so interesting to see everyone's color choices and styles. We are a varied and eclectic bunch. I've been sewing pointy petals for my Dresden Bloom variation (an Edyta Sitar pattern). It will be a long time before this UFO is done.

jeanne49 01-05-2015 07:59 PM

I'd like to join this group for 2015. I have blocks to be made into tops and tops that need to be made into quilts. Currently, I have pulled out the blocks from the Christmas block swap we did in 2014 and I am adding blocks from a swap I did with another group. This one will definitely be a completed top but don't have any idea when it will get quilted, as I have 2 other Christmas quilt tops that I did in Oct. and Nov. of 2014. Can't wait to see what others in this group get done.

Quiltaddiction 01-06-2015 01:35 AM

I'm in too. I have several top's finished and semi finished that I need to get done. I'm half way through a Bonnie Hunter quilt and am just waiting on our own QB mystery quilt by Judy to start but then I am not making any new quilts until I finish what I have piling up. My LQS classes don't start again until February after our school holidays here in Australia so maybe I can get some finishes - here goes - fingers crossed.;)
