I had the same problem with my latest UFO (3" short in my case). I had no more fabric (knew that when I was cutting it, because I was using the scraps from the backing). I had 2 pieces left - long enough, but only 1.5"-2" wide. So I joined them along the long edge, trimmed to 2.5" with the seam 1/4" offset from center, pressed it, and added that to my binding with the seam on the inside. No one will ever know but me. And everyone this thread :)

I still don't understand how 4 strips of fabric, each 6" longer than the square quilt, didn't make it all the way around the quilt. I guess mitred corners and 45 degree joins use more fabric than I thought.

Terrific save, Blue Bell!!
I tend to make waaaayyyy too much binding for a particular quilt - but then I save any leftovers, and combine those to create a mixed up binding for "utility" quilts.

LTeacherGeorge, what an absolutely ADORABLE quilt!! Those boys will have a blast playing on that, with their little MatchBox cars and trucks!! and I love the checkerboard border!! Awesome job!!

This is NOT a UFO but it is the reason I haven't been working on any of them. :)

The fabric for the Dresden blades and parallelograms are from my MIL's stash as is the grey/blue dot. This is for my son and future DIL. It amazingly is quite even as far as measurements go (86 X 92) and flat but it is just hanging on the design board funny. The light blues are the same too but we have a cloudy and rainy day in MN today so the colors are uneven looking.

I will appliqué some of my MIL's blocks on the sheet backing along with a small Dresden plate that I made originally. Then off to the hand quilter's. I hope I get it back at least a week before the May 20th wedding so I can bind it.

It is much brighter in person.

Gorgeous quilt Connie, I can certainly understand why you'd be working on that rather than a UFO LOL!

Very pretty Retiredteacher09. I do hope the hand quilter gets it back in time. That is pushing it just a little bit.

Connie, that is a gorgeous wedding quilt. Your son and future DIL will certainly treasure this one.
