We make our own rules here, but IMHO you are making a decision about the UFO and when it's out the door it's gone....

Welcome petthefabric! As oksewglad said we make our own rules here and no one is going to toss anyone out or hit them with a PIG (project in a bag) for doing things their own way. :)

For my own self, if I intend to get rid of the box marked Probably Never Finish once it is full or once I have sorted my UFOs, then I would count them gone. But then I would not call it Probably, I would call it Pass These On. LOL.
If I intended to keep the box, and maybe finish them one day, to me they would still be UFOs; they would just be very low on the priority list for finishing. And believe me, I have a few of those. OK, more than a few. LOL

That is just how I do it. You are free to do it any way you want to. When I gave one of my UFO's to my Sis-in-law, I counted that as a finish. It was gone from my pile! When I took a UFO with only a few blocks done, I turned it into a tablerunner and re-stashed the rest of the fabric which I had not cut yet. Another finish! A UFO doesn't have to end up what it started out to be.

If you have a UFO you might want to repurpose but are not sure how, or what, don't be shy about putting it up here with a photo or two and asking for suggestions. We are very helpful and creative..... especially with everyone else's UFOs.

petthefabric- they're your UFOs and however you decide to finish them is up to you. I've had some UFOs that I took off the pile, cut into smaller pieces and turned into pot holders-- in my book that's finished even though they started out to be a quilt... some folks have donated quilt tops and for them that's a finish... Anything that gets it off the UFO pile and out of your hair works as long as you consider it finished:thumbup:

What I actually did was follow the pieced border seam to travel to make the two outer quilting lines. I messed up and had to redo it so I had to lift the needle, otherwise it would have been done with no needle lifts. But considering it was my first time trying that as well as using a much lighter thread than the border, it's hardly noticeable.

Am VERY happy to report that I spent quite a few hours over the weekend working on another UFO. It's a set of 12 blue and yellow 9 1/2 inch unfinished blocks from, oh, 2003 maybe? Maybe my second BOM at a LQS that's now out of biz. In any case, I've got 2 more to quilt and then i'm going to use Sewbizgirl's QAYG tutorial to turn those old blocks into a small quilt. Holy cow. How easy it is to quilt a small block like that if I'm just doing straight lines. So much better than the FMQ I've repeatedly failed at...but I'm not completely giving up on that yet either. But for now...MAYBE I'll have another finish before May. Fingers crossed!

I did finish two more tops this last week. Just not quilted and bound yet. Had implants put in mouth so been a little out of sorts and did not want to get on the machine and sew over my fingers, been there done that. I just did a little embroidery and slept.

Well, now there's a question! Lol. I think I'd have to give that question a big ole NAY as an answer. WHEN you actually do donate them or get rid of them in some form, then we'll count them as "finishes".
