Ok, now I did grant everyone a one time covid exemption. I'm still waiting for my order from equilter to arrive, I did get the it shipped notice. That's just my basic black and white, and then some white on white polka dots so I can finish the Cherry Goose back.
I said after that, that I would be scolding. So here we go: Let's just buy the least we can. Rff1010, I would have had to have the fat quarters as well -- I mean, they practically were paying you to take them! |
Iceb, you can scold all you want, I am in the "Life is short" phase of my life, and if I want something I will get it. Let my survivors worry about what to do with it all. LOL
|
Good morning...my big fall has been donated fabrics, having received 2 batches of second hand bags of some smalls. I'm being more critical of what I save. A lot of the last 2 bags will be passed on yet again. I know I just can't use it all and it prevents me from using my beautiful, pretty fabrics. So whether we buy it or accept it, stay strong everyone and replace as we need.
juliasb, I could step into your space and become confused thinking it's my spacehttps://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images...es/biggrin.png |

I have been trying so hard to stay on the wagon but have fallen off twice so far. I am using fabrics from my stash everyday and making great progress too. Even with mask, which have actually been a great way to use my stash. The quilt top I just finished, the Drunkard's Path came from my stash too. I then cut a bunch of 5" squares to make another Depression Block quilt. That is always fun to make. I have fabrics everywhere in my studio right now because I will pull a piece from the depth of the shelf and of course other pieces come with it. So now pieces everywhere! Have no fear they will get used. I keep getting more and more orders for mask so those pulled out pieces will be put to use quickly.

petthefabric, congratulations on finishing the pillowcases!
Everyone's doing great on their stash reduction. I've been doing some 'shopping' on-line: I put stuff in my cart and then copy the cart and save it as an email draft. It's almost as good as buying it, lol. |
I did some shopping for backing for two quilts that were made from stash fabric. Just nothing big enough for the back. I don't call that "falling off the wagon". I call it finishing a quilt made from my stash. If I don't buy the back then the quilt will go into the UFO basket and I don't need that either! Tee-Hee-Hee Happy stash diminishing, everyone.

My shipment from equilter came in yesterday. I have to admit, getting fabric in the mail is one of the better things that can happen in life...
I think I'm going to be happy with these American Made Brand solid cottons. Slightly "silkier" feel maybe than the Kona, after its out of the dryer I'll do another comparison. But so far so good. Then it's using the white on white dot to finish the Cherry Goose back and that can be stacked neatly and out of the way once again. I got out my Barn quilt project the other day. It's been the paper piecing holding me back, if I had the Bernina back from the shop I'd probably be working on it. Think I mentioned that my replacement vintage foot pedal started making an alarming crackling sound? No smoke but I pulled the plug out of the wall and got the machine out from all that fabric. So I'm back to the cheapo Brother which really doesn't have a way to change the stitch length... and it's way too long for the paper piecing. Still have the Bunny Star to finish putting together, but starting to plan my "next" project. |

So here's the finished back for the Cherry Goose project, you can see that I needed quite a bit of the white polka dot -- I just had nothing suitable in stash. The cherry print was from the Walmart $1/yard sale. I have one piece left from that buy in stash (bright fun thin stripes), and a back for another project but otherwise accounted for! The smaller piece of the dot is on inside out. Darn it! I've never had to put in a deliberate mistake in any project I've ever made. I thought I was being careful... but I'm leaving it as is.
The second shot is it folded in quarters before I fold it for storage. The red square is the binding, I'm currently doing the "don't press first" method of binding. Not a solid convert, rather like that nice crisp pressed edge for storage, but it is easier/lazier and my results are just fine so that counts for something. |
Cool back, Iceblossom!
I put a box that had 90 fat quarters (blenders) into my Craftsy basket and with the 60% off that they were doing for members it was only $112 and free shipping. Then I looked at the drawer unit Where I store fat quarters and deleted the box from my cart. It’s amazing how looking at your storage space before pressing the “complete purchase” button can put the brakes on that impulse buy. Rob |
Such willpower, Rob! I tend to put things in my cart & leave the site. Usually I forget it's in there, so no buying.
iceblossom, creative use of all your fabrics, as usual. I admire your skills. |
Skills or being cheap with too much time and fabric (and coffee!)... sometimes I wonder. Thing is, when I am using stash I am determined to use every bit I can!
The white on white I just got was really nice fabric. It's hard for me to pay "print" prices for "solid" fabrics, but you know, it was really nice and sometimes my cheapness can be over-written by quality. I'm happy with the American Made Brand Solids too, they do have a bit of a silkier hand than the Kona but I think I like it... I think an edge to edge design like one of these would be an awesome finish to Cherry Goose, https://www.urbanelementz.com/catalo...t=0&q=cherries |
Yeah, Rob! This is an example for us all. I did something similar when preparing my grocery list for the next two weeks. I had an item on it that I just love and was going to purchase more. When I looked in the pantry, Ta-Da there were three of my items sitting on the shelf looking at me. Got to cross them off my list and out of my cart! https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/hunf.png

I think most of us have learned to avoid those emails and browsing (most of the time). I don't have a back yet for that black/white/yellow Minions project so was looking just at backs.
When I got to this one -- which was way after I had looked at everything I should have looked at, I started drooling and planning a top just to go with this back! And then I quickly shut down that site and came here while I come back to my senses. https://www.equilter.com/product/264...-quilt-backing I just want to wrap myself up in that... I found an ok choice for the Minions, not enough to buy it, and a really good back for another project that is in the collecting phase, but I am going to go into my stash and do something quick while my resolve is still holding strong! The Bernina shop called, I'll be getting Bernie back in about a week and for less than I had feared. Will be a bit over $200 instead of closer to the $350 I was prepared for. Woohoo! |
You have good taste in fabrics, Iceblossom. I made my granddaughter's college graduation quilt with a Northcutt Shimmer layer cake in the blue lagoon colorway. I like the purple!

Black Diamonds
1 Attachment(s)
Finished and ready to give away. I posted this to the 2.5 Birthday Swap Thread also this evening. This was one is all from my stash, top, batting (pieced), and back. No new anything for this one. The diamonds are black 2.5 in squares from previous swaps and a few I needed to cut from my stash. The inspiration for the "Black Diamonds" was a pattern from Weddingdressblue - Star Kissed Quilt-a-Long. I used the center of the Star Kissed pattern and went in my own direction from there.

Another Baby Bunny Quilt
3 Attachment(s)
Here is #2 a baby quilt for a just arrived little girl. This is the 4th quilt, I have made from this fabric. Each quilt was a different pattern featuring Bunny By the Bay fabric. I think I can squeeze out one more from the scraps. All from my stash even the batting.

Fun Projects, WMUTeach!
Ok, I'm pulling in my one-time no scolding Covid exemption. It must be used by the end of May. Of course, thread, interfacing and elastic never counted anyway... Can offer a stimulus check exemption, but in that case you really need to save that excuse for a major shopping spree! Really, don't use that on just a couple of yards of something, put a full kit or put a dent in a close-out section or something. I've been doing more outside things and not so much sewing -- I think I get the Bernina back from the shop this week and have been waiting on that. But on Sunday I had a neighbor on one side of me who needed wood, and I had another neighbor down the street with a big brush pile she wanted gone, and there we were in the middle with a truck and a couple of saws. So we loaded up the truck (small ranger pickup, but it was a full beds-worth of long sticks about the thickness of your arm. I loaded up the grill with charcoal and meat while the hubby cut the long lengths into fire wood. |

I have used up enough stash this winter to clear a cubby for Wally to snooze in. He likes to keep me company when I sew.
|
WMUTeach, those bunnies are cute. I picked up a cute line of fabric most suitable for boys from HOP’s clearance section....enough to make four or five tops. Cue the avalanche of baby girls!
|
Cattitude, in dieting we talk about "non scale victories", that's a grand fabric reduction victory -- a place for the Cat! Wally is an excellent addition to your space :)
|
Cattitude, that is a lot of fabrci to have disappear from your stash. Congratulations. A little isolation is good for chasing away excess fabric. I sure like your visual of fabric used. It is purrrrfect.
|
WMUTeach: Congratulations on your great finishes. You are doing a great job using up some of your stash.
Iceblossom: I am sure your neighbors were very appreciative of the help and the meal from the two of you. Way to go! Cattitude: Wally looks very content in his new napping place. |
Very sweet quilt, MSUTeach. I like the pattern.
|
Finally! I've sold my house & closed on it & my new one! Movers arrive this Friday to haul my stuff to my new town. The sewing machines will find a new location & my fabric will be released from captivity! So I will finally be able to arrange things to make sewing fun. There is a quilt shop within 20 miles, so I may claim a moving exemption once the shop opens. I'm so excited about moving to a small town, in a county with 18,400 people! My house is on 0.61 acre, so no neighbors breathing down my neck. A calm environment for quilt-making.
|
How exciting! I'm so happy you can continue with the move and be able to be reunited with your fabric.
So ok, one "Stimulus Patriotic Duty" exemption and one "New Start on Old Habits" exemption :) |
Conchalea....congrats! Being in limbo for so many months must have been very difficult, I feel for you!
|
Conchalea: Wahoo! I’m so excited for you and looking forward to pictures of your new sewing space.
|
Conchalea, that is great news! Congratulations!
|
Thank you, everyone. I'm going to a 2-BR from a 3-BR, so I wont have a true dedicated sewing space. But with the large back yard, I might get a pre-fab out-building for a sewing space. That way, the cats wont be able to shed on everything g as I sew.
|
Conchalea, It will all be so wonderful to get settled down again! Quilters and cats it's a problem we all have. My sewing room is the smallest bedroom and the door is always shut when I'm not in it. So much that when we were getting our house refinanced, my husband completely forgot that indeed we are a 3 and not a 2-bedroom house! My cat is smart enough, in addition to being old and fat enough that when I put the doggy door up when I'm in there he doesn't jump over. But in the rest of my house, pet hair is definitely an issue.
I picked up Bernie from the repair shop last night, we are going to spend some time today getting reset up and getting reacquainted today. With tax the repairs/cleaning came out to $250, so still less than the $350 I had expected and budgeted. But on the same trip as picking up Bernie, my car (who doesn't have a name other than Buick) had to go to its own shop. It's not holding a charge, I'm hoping it's something basic like an alternator and not a weird electrical problem... I have the Bunny Star top to put together and then am thinking of maybe some paper piecing... |
So happy for you, Conchalea!

2 quilt tops done and ready for my church group to finish and donate.
The first one is Hope, a quarantine quilt along 2 through GE designs. The 2nd one is Unity by Bonnie Hunter. It was a stay-at-home mystery. I only did 5 of the clues because adding another clue would have made it too large for my church group. Plus, I like borders. Lol! Oops! Only one picture will post. This is Unity. |

This is Hope by GE Designs.

Very nice tops both, Retiredteacher. While the Bonnie Hunter one is fabulous, I find myself drawn to Hope.

Beautiful quilt tops, Connie!
Rob |
Great tops, Retiredteacher! I like the how the green draws your eye to the geometric shapes.
|
Thanks for the compliments. I like the Hope quilt best too. I am going to do Elvira by GE Designs in Christmas colors. That was her first Quarantine Quilt Along.
First, I must put away the red and blue scraps from Unity. I’m trying to keep from just throwing them in their color bin. Instead, I am sorting the scraps by size and putting them in their strip size bag which is by color. That way I don’t need to trim now as I just do a quick measurement. Some I’m cutting into square sizes that I like or strips. Just how the piece ‘speaks’ to me. (Or my mood at organizing them at that moment.). Lol! |
