Rob, I love the stars & quilting! I have a new ruler foot, so hopefully I'll get to use it once I move.

Great finish, Rob.

April Finishes, I think
April was a lean month for UFO’s. Face masks obviously were a higher priority for many of us. Nonetheless, we did have 5 reported finishes:1 & 2–WMU Teach is the only person claiming two finishes this month. Churn Dash posted on April 10th and Red, White and Blue scrappy. Way to go. Me—I need three May finishes to get back to one a month.
3–QuiltMom2’s Barnraising set Log Cabin. Don’t we all love all the ways to set Log Cabin blocks? 4–Vasilisa’s “little brother to Kendo” quilt. If you don’t remember, Kendo the elder was finished last month. 5–Rob’s stars. Great that you found that fabric so you could finish If I missed anyone, please PM me. We did have a jump start, so this brings us to a total of 99 for the year. May goal= 25. Today was the first day I pulled out a UFO to finish. Still have more masks to finish, but they can take a break. In the spirit of the Fabric Moratorium, I hereby declare a face mask exemption for anyone not completing a UFO in April. |
Good afternoon everyone, I thought that I would just check-in and kind of say Hello to everyone. Rob that quilting is Gorgeous and a great job as usual. I made those two aprons on request and made some mask for the DGD. I sent two tops to the Cousin longarmer, she might have gotten caught up into mask-making, also. I am still putting things in boxes when I am not also taking things out of boxes. So the move is still on hold.
I lost two of my friends to Covid-19, in April one was a childhood friend and the other was a very close friend, she baby-sit my grand children. I was a little shaken by it, may her soul rest in peace, I will miss her. Now you all stay safe and I can't say that I will get to a UFO until I get settle in the great state of Georgia cherryb |
Cherryb-I'm so sorry to hear about your friends.
Hugs, Rob |
Thank you Rob, for your kind words are appreciated
Stay safe everyone cherryb |
Rob: Awesome pattern and quilting. I will need to look that up on Bluprint.
cherrybsixty: My heart breaks for you on the loss of friends. Sending you a virtual hug. |
Whoo-Hoo rryder! Lovely ruler work and now you can call it finished! The pile "shrinkith".
|
Thank you Retiredteacher09, that virtual hug is well needed during this time of isolation.
Stay safe everyone cherryb |
Cherrybsixty, I am very sorry for your loss. (((Hugs)))

Stunning finish, rryder!!! Goodness, your quilting is beautiful!

Well, I guess sewing over 150 masks was good because they got me back to the sewing machine after a nearly 5 year absence. I got diverted with lots of wonderful international photography trips but that has obviously come to a sudden halt. I got back from Norway on March 10, just in time to self quarantine at home since. I made masks for a local senior services charity which felt good to being productive at least!
So back to UFOs, I had 2 quilts back from the long armer that only needed binding to be completed, but they have been sitting for several years. I just completed the binding on both—-so that counts as a win/finish doesn’t it??? Feels like it anyway. I have 4 or 5 other tops in various stages on incompletion, so will line them up next! stay well everyone!! |
Slowly, ever so slowly! I am working my way towards finishing a UFO. I have all the blocks completed and I'm marking all my quilting designs before putting the top together.
|
Rob, your finish is gorgeous!!!!
|
JeanneS, yes putting the binding on otherwise completed tops definitely counts as 2 UFOs finished! Congratulations on adding to the tally of completed UFOs!
|
Bookworm, welcome to the group and welcome back to Jeanne, who has started May with a bang with 2 finishes! 🙌 pictures, please.
Just a friendly reminder to PM me when you declare a finish, because you define a finished UFO. You may have donated it to someone else to finish, you may have put it in the Secret Santa sale at your local quilt shop to raise money for charity, you may have given in and put it on the “take it” table at your guild. How it assumes status as no longer your UFO, it is no longer your UFO. Whenever that is, please PM me, so I don’t have to guess on your intentions. If you are like me and doggedly insist on finishing it down to the last stitch in the binding, that is OK, too. It is your decision. Today is bright, sunny and warm in beautiful WNC. Finished the top for the Fractured Sapphire Star by implementing a design decision. Will explain when I post the pic of the finished quilt. Time to go sit on the porch and do my weekly meal planning. When I come back in, it will be time to do more layout on the OBW of Split Rock. |
OK, so I know it has been awhile since I have posted any photos, but I can't figure out how to do it now. There used to be an icon with a tree in a square that we could click on to get to a photo on our computer. But I can't find that now. How do we post a photo? I looked at the icon that looks like a postcard but it wants an URL which I don't have. Just photos on my computer. Boy I hate being tech challenged.

Jeanne S: Welcome back! For pictures, I write my post and then hit the Go Advanced button. Then I choose the paper clip and go from there to choose my picture. I post from an iPad. Congratulations on your 2 finishes.

Rob....beautiful finish...quilting is amazing.
Cherry....hugs, darlin! So sorry to hear of the loss of your friends. I hate that we lost so many to this stupid virus. |

That's a cool quilt, Rob. So modern.
I'm considering this a UFO because I've had the fabric and pattern picked for it for over a year. Finally dug in and cut a second one out, too. These are "lovey" blankets for policemen to carry in their trunks and give to kids they encounter in trauma. Been wanting to do this for a long time. |
Sew cute, Bonnie...how many layers of flannel do you use?
|
Thanks, OK. I used to use three layers, but that's really too warm for our climate most of the year. So I now use only 2 layers and it works out fine.
|
Cute blanket, Sewbiz!
|
Awesome blanket for a great purpose, sewbizgirl.
|
Thank you, Connie and all...
|
So cute, Sewbiz....perfect for a trauma blanket. So thoughtful.
|
Good evening everyone, thanks NZquilter and Teen, for your kind words, praying that all on the board don't have to go through this loss. Welcome on board to the UFO train Bookwork913, and welcome back JeanneS good having you on board. Sewbizgirl that is a cute finish, congratulations.
Stay safe everyone cherryb |
What a wonderful finish, Rob! I love that you found the fabric you needed as a skinny bolt. Thanks for the close-up photos!
Sweet blanket, sewbiz, and what a lovely idea. |
Thanks, everyone.

UFO top completed! Wahoo!
i can’t remember when I started assembling the blocks with donated Bert, Ernie, and Big Bird pieces. I do know it’s been well over a year. I would pull them out and work on them, put them away, pull them out, etc. I was planning to make enough 10.5” blocks for a 70” by 80” quilt top for my church quilting group. However, frustration and perhaps a light bulb moment had me thinking 1/2 pieced blocks and 1/2 plain blocks with a border would get me to the finish faster. The orange is a batik and was in a donation. I had cut it into 10.5” strips somewhere along the line. It was not dyed evenly so I fussy cut 10.5” squares for the top and then some smaller squares before I cut the rest to 1.5” strips. I still have a bunch of the Bert, Ernie, and Big Bird pieces. I am going to count them and then decide on how big to make them with scrap pieces. They will be combined with other blocks too. |
Cherryb, I am really sad for you. Losing two friends to this virus must be indescribably painful. Hugs and prayers as you grieve.
|
Retired- that's adorable! Somebody is going to love having a Sesame Street quilt.
|
Impressive ruler work on the quilting Rob!
Sesame Street still rules at many houses, that is sure to find a home. Do you remember me saying "not only do I have my own UFO's but other people's UFO's also come to me?" I can't count this as a finish since my friend won't let me trim and bind, but I've quilted her very first quilt that she took a class to learn piecing. It's lovely and had it been mine, I don't think I could have let it slip into UFO Limbo. She got tired of SITD after 3 out of 9 blocks. |
Great Sesame St. quilt!
I finished one last night... the quilting, that is. I still need to bind it. It's a large, heavy quilt (because of the cotton batting) and I am so glad to get done with it. It's a Bonnie Hunter design with a million tiny pieces. |
Thank you Zozee, for your thoughts
Stay safe cherryb |
Retired....cute Sesame quilt. I haven't done much with Novelty prints but every time I see one like yours, it inspires me to select some prints and make one.
Sewbiz....Bonnie's quilts are monsters so I'm very impressed that you endured the quilting process. well done...Hope you share pic... I am FMQ quilting my Quilter's Patch quilt on my domestic...it's a monster, too... |
Hello, everyone. Congratulations on all the UFO finishes!! I wasn't going to join this year, as I usually don't get as many UFO's completed as I would hope, but so far this year, I've complete none. LOL. I will not list them as I am one of you who has too many to count. After making a bunch of masks (like most of you), I am working on a "graduation" quilt for BFF's granddaughter. But hopefully, I will have a completed UFO by the end of May. Thank you for all the inspiration here.

Finally getting motivated again. Our quilting group is meeting on zoom 2x/wk-getting to talk with people again. Now I'm thinking about what I want to show them and a project I can work on during the meeting. Have to get ready-motivation.
I've got so many UFO's that I don't want to start a new project. Had a top taped to the wall and decided to skip the planned order of finishing. Pulled a fabric from "ages ago fabric storage" for the back. My taste in fashion fabrics has changed so now it goes into quilts. So far it's all been std. Today I can start FMQ |
Whoo-Hoo,petthefabric! Getting started is often the biggest hurdle. I meet with my guild twice a week too and love to show off progress and to see progress being showed by others.
