Any monthly goals for February? I'm trimming and attaching binding to a big quilt that I know the hand-embroidered blocks were done while the lady waited for her husband to come out of work. He's been gone for over a decade now, So it's a big, ol' UFO that's been saying "I need to be finished now!"

grann of 6 02-01-2020 05:29 AM

Everyone did a fantastic job in Jan. My goal for Feb. is to finish up this pineapple quilt. I have 20 blocks completed, and have started on the centers for 10 more. I'll see if 30 blocks is enough for a decent size top. The blocks are done in Kona solids and white, haven't decided what I will do for borders and backing. This will be my biggest UFO, as far as goals are concerned. I usually do quick type projects that can be donated. This was something a friend and I started together, hers being finished months ago. Mine got stalled, mostly because of other quilts coming first. Then the mere thought of getting back to it just didn't seem exciting any more. So it is now having its turn and I am not particularly enjoying the process, but it will get done and done.

Belfrybat 02-01-2020 07:27 AM

Judith, OKsewglad and Dedemac -- wonderful finishes all of you.

My goal for February is to finish the two mystery quilts I began last year. I'm not sure they are technically UFOs as one didn't end until a couple of weeks ago. In the UFO pile, I have four tops to quilt and three more in the works, but I'm not sure I'll have them done this month. We'll see....

zozee 02-01-2020 07:35 AM

January’s grand total for finishes was 37.

That was almost double the goal of 22. Well done, everyone!

February has 29 days this year. Let’s leap into the month with a goal of 35, shall we?

if you don’t know what to start with, take one that Is closest to being finished. Knock it out. If you have a bunch of tops, pick one that has red, pink, or hearts in it.

I will be working on two: a baby quilt (not a UFO) still not done for grandlamb due 2/28. And Bizz Buzz, a jelly roll quilt I’m making as a surprise for a dear friend to say “I love you.”

Happy finishing! We are on a roll!

NZquilter 02-01-2020 08:32 AM

Wow! 37 finishes in January!! Congratulations everyone!

Judith, your pastel scrappy Hunters Star is beautiful! Enjoy your time with the grands!

oksewglad 02-01-2020 11:17 AM

I found the binding material for my quilted UFO...not enough  so I'm on a search mission. It shouldn't take me 29 days to find some:D

Dedemac 02-01-2020 12:18 PM

Grann of 6 - Just remember there is a way to chain piece anything, sometimes you have to maneuver things a litter more, you need to remove the first one after the third one is sewn and such. So just have everything stack up nicely and put on some fun music!

Judith - that was a awesome quilt.

My goal for February???? Get my sewing machine (127) back from the shop and FM DGS's quilt. Also do all the February 365 blocks that still need to get finished. With luck I can make a table topper out of some orphan block to count as a finish for this month.

rryder 02-01-2020 01:12 PM

My goal for Feb. is two UFOs. one will be finished tomorrow. The next one in the hopper is ready yo be sandwiched and quilted, but I’m having second thoughts on the way Ikd decided to present it (it’s an art quilt) so I may backburner it for a while and grab something else from the UFO pile.

I didn't get it done in January, but it's done now.!! Lap size, four patch Posey that was quilted three years ago. Finally got the binding on. Sorry no picture. Who do I send a pm to for the count? Thanks for all the encouragement to work on projects. Now I need to find the next one.

petthefabric 02-01-2020 02:33 PM

There's an art quilt started 2 yrs ago in memory of the Paradise wildfire. The ideas just weren't jelling and wanting to get onto something else, it got dropped to the foot of the design wall. While I've got interest in it and no batting to finish something else, it's going back on the desisgn wall to move forward. It may still take a couple years, but I'll make progress on it.

Teen 02-01-2020 03:01 PM

I still have not received back my 1UFO and WIP from LA'r. Ugh! I had hoped for a January finish but I can at least add to FEB. plus....a new UFO will be swapped with LA'r...so that's 2 for Feb..... That's my goal...

Dedemac 02-01-2020 04:19 PM

Congratulation!!!! our first for the month! Just PM Zozee a few posts up.

Judith: Congratulations on your quilt finish. I like the pastels. Also, enjoy your grandchildren.

Well, I worked a little on a top that should have been an easy finish. The donor of the fabric had all of the squares made, joined, and most of the sashing cut. However, I decided to work on a BOM and on a different person’s UFO from this board.

I’m having a very hard time staying on task today because my first grandchild is on his way. Well, I thought he was anyway. :). My son hasn’t updated me since 1 pm today. I did tell him to concentrate on my DIL and baby and text me when he arrives or if my son wants me there for emotional support to let me know. I just didn’t think he would take it quite so seriously. Lol!

My goal is to finish 1 UFO top this month.

cherrybsixty 02-01-2020 05:20 PM

Good evening everyone, boy!! I don't ride the train for 1 day and look what all has happen. Finishes, new riders, and baby-sitting duties about to begin

Congratulations to Motorcyclemad on your two finishes, Zozee on your 1 finish and Judith1005 such a beauty. Hooray for such a grand total for January, way to go everyone

Judith your baby-sitting duty will be so enjoyable

For February's plans they are looking and sounding good. I'm going to really focus on packing and discording some more things. But, I did give the LA one top and I am thinking that I will give her one more. Thirty-five is not a bad goal. Thanks Zozee for keeping the count

Welcome aboard Countrymaid and congratulation on the first February finish

And everyone in the caboose keep stitching and before you know it you will be partying in the club car

Happy sewing everyone

Good morning WMUTeach, you keep at that hand quilting piece and you will make it to the club car. I've encountered a hand quilted piece a couple of times and they do take patience. You will be showing us pix of it soon. Remember today is VQW Special Super Bowl Sunday, join us for the sew.

Happy Sewing Day everyone

February Finish!

2 Attachment(s)
Hey all, I have a Feb. finish! It's 50" wide x 62" long and has been sitting around in the UFO pile for a couple of years. It started out as a simple practice piece for doing raw edge appliqué. I was just using a spare piece of light fabric and a bunch of my scraps and practicing putting them on it with my sewing machine. Then I decided to make it into a funky art quilt using decorative stitching, etc. but never got around to it. When I pulled it out last month to try and finish I pinned it to my design wall on top of a batik quilt and realized that I liked the idea of doing some batik borders on it. So, no decorative stitching, just a border, sandwiching and doodle quilting play. I've decided to call it "All the Little Fishies" don't ask me why, that's just how I kept referring to it in my head while quilting.
Thanks for looking,
Rob

rryder 02-02-2020 01:38 PM

Oops- I forgot to add that I smashed 2 UFOs (the batiks and the center part) from my pile together to make the one I just posted, so technically, it could count as 2 completions...

Rob

zozee 02-02-2020 03:58 PM

Congrats, Rob, on your fishy finishes:) . I can see some lucky ones swimming in school, and some that weren't so lucky. LOL

You get credit for 2. We like creative two-fers around here.

Our count is now up to 3.

retiredteacher09 02-02-2020 08:35 PM

Way to go, Rob!

I did work on the UFO on my design wall. I sewed 2 sections together. Wahoo. I have an idea for making it bigger but that will probably happen later in the week.

My grandson made his appearance today. I’m so excited to be a grandma. He will have a unique birthday date with it being 02/02/2020. He was born at 2:12 pm. Lots of 2’s in his birth history. I won’t be posting any pictures per my son and DILs wishes. He was 13 days early but weighed in at 7 lbs, 10 oz and is 20” long. He was wrapped in many layers when I held him so I wasn’t going to unwrap him to check out his toes and fingers, That can happen later this week, 😊

zozee 02-02-2020 09:26 PM

What a very cool birthday to have. It’s a palindrome date (same backwards as forward). I am hoping our last baby had come on 02/02/02 and his graduation year is 2020. But he came on Valentine’s Day. Now I’m hoping our grandson comes 8 days early —02/20/2020.

Again let me say congratulations and welcome to the grammy club. There’s no joy like it!!

rryder 02-03-2020 02:03 AM

Yay Connie! Sounds like he was raring to go and he certainly picked a unique birthdate!

Rob

grann of 6 02-03-2020 08:14 AM

Very nice Rob. and the quilting is very ambitious, but is great.
Well, i am very excited to say that i completed my pineapple blocks yesterday, 30 in all. I decided to put sashing and cornerstones to add a secondary block look to it. All I have to do now is sew all the rows together and get it ready to quilt. So it should be done this week. i will be so thrrilled to have the pineapple blocks out of the UFO bins and into the "finished' stack. And this will help towards the stash busting, too, since I will need a few yards for backing. Since the blocks are all solid primary colors it should be easy to find some print for the backing.

grann of 6 02-03-2020 08:17 AM

What a wonderful date for a baby birth. Congratulations. My Great Dane has a unique birthday, was born on 12/12/12.

January Finishes

I am finally smarter than the average duck! :o I finally figured out posting a pic on the new format--Yeahhhh ;)

I am doing double duty for these two from last month. These two also coiunt toward this years Moratorium...

The first is about 4-months old. I really need to pay attention to my count when I am putting these together. I chain stitch the rows leaving the connecting threads all the way across, then sew the strips together. I was 2 squares short of the second to middle diagonal and did not find out until the second to the last block per row. I refused to take it completely out. I just had to find a replacement and fix the other "16". Now you know why it sat for 4 months.

The second is one of two that have hand embroidered squares from a friend. It is about 7-years old. The third picture is a close up of one of the blocks. Since I tweaked this one (adding the sashing), the second one is on hold until I can come up with a more pleasing layout.

My first February finish...

This was done late on Saturday the first.

This is one of two Saturday Samplers--same design, different colorways. Of course I wanted it larger than it originally finished. The final two borders were giving me fits, so of course it was not finished last month. There are biased edges in both, so you can imagine the aggravation--even with lots of starch.

The first is an overall pic and the second is of the pieced border.

oksewglad 02-03-2020 11:27 AM

Way to go Mcyclemad! I like to sew blocks in a "web", too. It holds everything together and I don't "lose" pieces, but when I goof up, naughty words follow!

I fully understand, and you are not alone with what usually follows. :o

I managed to finish my January UFO on February 1st. I got the binding hand stitched on my Double Irish Stars quilt from Piecing the Past Quilts. I love this quilt. I am finding it much more difficult to hand stitch bindings any more so my next quilt im going to try the flange method.

Judith1005 02-03-2020 04:21 PM

Great finishes ladies. I am so happy for you. I am loving the pictures.
