I am just finishing up two wallhangings and trying to decide if I want to bling it with gold-something for September's challenge. One of the wallhangings is for my Mom's 84th birthday present.

Too bad we couldn't have all met you while you were in the U.S. Glad you got home safely.

i just finished the dq for september and i'm thinking some gold accents might be just the right touch. will post a pic or two soon. this was a new try at fmq, and i did some thread painting. i embellished with silk leaves. i'm not thrilled with my skill level yet, but i do like the techniques and i'm sure i'll be trying them again and again. practice makes better!!
i have finished the top for my son's london quilt and have started quilting it! i am doing stitch near the ditch and it's not going to be perfect, but i used wool batting and i like the way it's working out. our cat, tiger, thinks it's just for him. tomorrow is finish quilting day no matter what! as soon as that's done i need to finish the quilt for my dgd. and then there is the boomerang swap i need to do, i'm feeling stressed!! i am trying to keep very busy!

Well........I can't wait to see the GOLD bling on these Q's you all have mentioned. Are there some photos coming??? Monday will be a new challenge so finishing up this weekend is a good idea.

Nancia you are one busy girl! I bet the kitty loves that wool, how toasty. And how needed on rainy London evenings. Don't stress the deadlines it's not worth it. You will get done what you get done.....hmm maybe some of that south of the border attitude is kicking in on me after all.

ready to do the binding. i am exhausted! didn't realise that quilting was so physical. i will post a pic soon-- the cat loves it even when i've put it in a bag to keep it clean. hmmm, may have to send the cat to london, too. anyone know the quarantine requirements for cats? just kidding, tiger stays here with me!! might even keep the quilt. i really like it.
the bling will be on the dq i have basically finished. i'm pretty happy with that, too. i tried several new things on it, just for fun. and will burnish the leaves as a final touch. hope it's not too subtle. tee hee

I am looking to see what you decided on this. Wall hangings are so great for gold.

Wish I could have met some of you while back in the US I love the inspiration and proximity to creativity but the time was short. Trip home was long and the air pillow went flat leaving me with pretzel neck. (Not the only pretzel I had while I was gone btw :) (Pretzel neck...hmm..now there's an idea for a Q

Can't wait to see the London efforts and those intriguing leaves you've mentioned. You will tell us all about the new things you tried right?

It sounds like a marathon of creativity at your house...or was it just lots of sewing work to get to the end? Somtimes it can be both I know.

OCTOBER CHALLENGE------ Beloved Memories

We have all had things we loved and lost or have memories of things precious we keep close to our hearts. I thought a good challenge for all would be to interpret one of these into an art Q.

The news and life make us aware of the fragility of our circumstances but the spirit keeps rising and we love newly while not forgetting and treasuring the past. Quilters are very good at this. So let's haul out some of that past and share it in a new way with some art Q's.

Perhaps grandma's recipe for brownies? Write it on cotton and make it into a kitchen wallhanging. (Which you could then give to someone for Xmas?) Etc.

Can't wait to hear what you all come up with and I hope some of your efforts wind up serving to fill out your gift list also.

A little personal note; This month because of our personal situation we have been doing a lot of wallowing in 'the good old days'. (Long story short; we left our fantastic home and personal goods in the care of a property manager who did not pay the insurance as agreed. Of course the house and all my husband's musical compositions and my older quilts all burned along with all else. We just came back from suing him where we stripped him of most of what he owned but it was no where near our losses for paid off house and retirement income. Soooooo........ as we start our lives over freshly at 65.... I found some actual shreds of fabric in the burnt out debris that did not totally burn to cinders and plan to incorporate this into a wall hanging along with a few scraps of one of my husband's compositions from 1972.)

Should be an interesting exercise for all who give it a try.

My pumpkin wallhanging was sent to my Mom for her 84th birthday without any gold put on it. I took photos but can not find them on the computer. It must have thrown them someplace and so far, I haven't been able to locate them. I am almost finished FMQ the one I am making for our own home. THAT one will have gold on it.

Dotty, your gold creation would make a terrific evening tote.

Suzie, will have to put my thinking cap on for October's challenge.

So sorry to hear of your loss. I cannot even imagine going through what you have experienced.
