I've made watercolor quilt wall hangings that aren't on the wall. 2 inch squares are a part of life, and I'm tempted to make one with a Shimmer jelly roll. I am a gluten 2 inch square punishment.

Those look beautiful, AlvaStitcher! That yellow is really interesting.

AlvaStitcher 11-14-2014 07:24 AM

Joe'smom, Interesting in what way? LOL

SunlitenSmiles 11-14-2014 07:25 AM

I can do this (<- me convincing myself ) I can, I remember when I had two boxes of the tiny fabric samples from keepsake quilting and I decided to make planed scrappy nine patches from all 300 and then another one of the little boxes showed up in my 'assorted' bin???? Long story , longer, ended up with cute doll quilts ! p.s. they were like 1 1/2 inch pre-cuts, finished at 1 in. ....'pre-cut' was the only sane part of that project.....giggle.

I just noticed something more about the paint cards......the cutouts not only give you a good view of the color but also a preview of what a small piece of the fabric will look like....right now placing the aqua card on the deep pink fabric..... humm.... bet all of you already noticed this!

AlvaStitcher - your choices are fantastic.

If you join the Yahoo group "Sew it's For Sale " there are used Accuquilts up for sale all the time. That is how I got mine at about half the retail cost. I did an In Search Of Post and had several offers to chose from. Some quilters buy these and then don't use them much and want to sell them so they can buy fabric, lol. I love mine, helps to save on the strains of rotary cutting.

The curlicues give a sense of movement. Seeing it with the tonal fabrics, it looks like it will go very nicely with them!

That will chase me right away! May have to be creative and enlarge the blocks.
I'll be holding my fingers crossed that she was serious when she said it would be easier than the last one.

Oh BLINK! I get goose bumps just thinking about them. Would you please post a picture of your PP Angel? I would love to see it. I am an off-and-on Whovian who loved Tom Baker days. Thank you

600 ?????????????? I would hope you could paper-piece them and not have to cut up little bits in an Accuquilt or any other way.

I am 90% committed to doing this!

that quilt block is so beautiful. The bright leaves in the background contract with the stone angel - one is in one world and one in another. Wow.
Thank you for sharing

Looks like you nailed it, AlvaStitcher! All beautiful fabrics in the right colors....

I use Superior Threads' Bottom Line in the bobbin all the time.

The bobbin will last almost all the way through piecing a single-bed size quilt. Best of all, it also results in perfect straight stitches.

My machine is a Husqvarna 875 Quilt.

All, tonight I vow to do stash diving that I have put off for weeks now. Just realized I signed up for a class tomorrow for my first hand sewn wool project. I hope that doesn't start a whole new fabric collecting bug.

I don't want to buy fabrics for this project, I want to use my stash but I really am liking all the fabrics folks are putting together with Bonnie's colors. Not sure if I can find enough in those colors in my stash so may have to alter. I know for sure that I don't have a yellow close to that one. What to do. The class tomorrow is near a fabric store that is having a premoving fabric sale so it will be very tempting not to drop in there.

Lisa, DROP IN! Don't miss that sale! who knows what bit of remnant might be in the bottom of the basket waiting for you! Besides, if you make yourself use fabrics from your stash that aren't 'right' to you, you will be irritable about if for the whole mystery. Right?

I am so excited about this mystery quilt! I am trying to finish up my Celtic Solstice in time to start the Grand Illusion. I am so glad that there is a group here participating in the mystery! I have picked out all my colors except the black and neutrals.

Kassaundra 11-14-2014 05:21 PM

Thank you guys for the comments on the weeping angel.

Tweety2911 11-14-2014 05:42 PM

Amazing job on the weeping angel!

joe'smom 11-14-2014 07:26 PM

The angel is really wonderful. After googling 'Whovies' and 'weeping angel', and seeing that beautiful quilt block, I'm thinking maybe I should watch that show.

It is an awesome show w/ great story lines. Each show can stand on there own, but they are interconnected and I would highly recommend starting w/ the first 2005 season of the new ones. Especially if you watch some random ones and like them.

I was out there a few weeks ago and Cozy Quilts was going to be moving sometime in the future. I bet it's getting close - that may be the shop with the pre-moving sale.

Judylee2 11-15-2014 05:04 AM

Okay, I can't stand it, I'm in. I couldn't resist since I'm originally from Michigan and love Mackinac Island. But I know that I won't be able to do the full quilt so I decided to not make it real scrappy and stick to one fabric for each color. I think I'll start with doing 1/4 of the directions, then if that doesn't work for the design, I'll add more later. I've never done a BH but in looking at her quilts online, a lot of them would work as smaller quilts. Some wouldn't, and if that's the case I'll punt, and hope that I can buy more fabric to match.

Sounds like a good plan. Nice choice of fabrics.

Belfrybat 11-15-2014 01:22 PM

I love your fabric choices, Whitepine. On Easy Street I made half the number of blocks, and ended up with a 3 x 4 block design, which meant I had to make more of some units, but had a bunch of others left over. This time, I'm going to do about 1/3rd and see what I need at the end to fill in. I'd rather make more than have a bunch left over. But since I doing the same as you with one fabric per colour, I set aside enough of each to do the whole quilt "just in case".

This sounds like a winner. I don't have enough of an available stash to pick my fabrics nor the money to buy fabrics right now, so I got the paint cards and am going to print out and save the directions as they post so I can decide if I want to do this later. I did notice while at Lowe's today that the pink that she chose is different than the pink color that was designated Grand Hotel Geranium pink. I picked up that chip as well just in case I liked it better.

Suzanne57 11-16-2014 12:02 AM

I'm also originally from Michigan but never made it to the island.

I think I made it over three times. Once as a kid. Once as a young adult and biked around the island. Once when I was older and by then you had to pay to go on the veranda. I never made it during lilac season which is supposed to be spectacular, with some of the lilacs being over 200 years old. When BH started talking about the flower that the hotel is known for I was sure she was going to say lilacs, but instead it was the geraniums on the porch.
