WMUTeach, what a great way to spend some time with your grandson! Can’t wait to see what you two picked out!

I've finally picked a background fabric. I'm going out on a limb, as it's kind of an orange/peach color. When a near by quilt shop went out of business, I bought what was left on the bolt of quite a few colors I figured could be used as background. At 75% off, I figured I'd find a use for them some day. I've got about 6.5 yards, if I run out I'll figure something else out. I'm going to use lt cream, brown, aqua and green to go with. Those colors will be scrappy so will select them as I go.

I bought the kindle version, and I drew the blocks out with EQ8 and printed them out. Now to go cut them and get to sewing. I'm doing all 6 at one time because I love doing them that way.

Oooooo. Peach for background sounds really fun.

Cathy, I think it will be enough. I was trying to figure out where 8 yards would go. It looks like the background borders and sashing are cut length of fabric. So thats 2 yards and there would be some fabric left from that. The rest is used as background in the blocks, but many of the blocks don't need much background.

Made the first four blocks and am taking a break! Photos when (if?) the sun comes out. I must say it has been a while since I was challenged by such small blocks. Took my time, measured and re-measured!

What fun! I got to work on the blocks today. Whew! I had forgotten how important that exact seam allowance is for small blocks. By the end, it will be easy. Here are my first two.

I was able to catch some sun this morning and snapped a photo of my fabric choices. The cream on the left is my background. The red is for my wide border and the color in the "Pennsylvania" blocks that I will be making a bundle of. (I am doing the version on page 91.) The blues and golds will be scattered among the other blocks with pops of red now and again. No sewing today but I have had fun making a chart for myself to follow recording finishes both of my choices and what is part of our groups BOM.

Lovely colors WMUTeach. One of the things I miss with this project is a line drawing of the blocks in the finished quilt. I would love to color them in as I go but, I guess it would be extremely busy. Oh well, I am going to try to be happy with each block, once assembly is done, I know I won't have them in the same order. Happy Sewing.

Happy Mother's Day, Dotty!

WMUTeach, it was lovely reading about your shopping trip. Those are beautiful fabrics!

toverly, your blocks look great! I agree that a coloring page would be very useful.

For those who have done samplers before, how do you end up with such a balanced look (thinking of Dotty's prize-winning sampler) if you have not planned out the entire quilt first? Do you end up deciding on your final placement of blocks based on the colors you used in each block, or do you choose your colors for each block based on the final placement of the blocks?

My machine is in for servicing with a 2 1/2 week estimate, so I will have to content myself with pressing and cutting and swooning over other people's blocks for the time being. I did receive my book yesterday, and watched a youtube on foundation paper piecing, which I have never done.
