Thanks for posting DottyD. That's a good substitution block. We are keeping an eye on Hurricane Ida right now. I will be happily sewing once the storm shutters are up. I'm in the Florida Panhandle which right now is out of the cone but, if it gets to a Cat 3 or 4. They have a tendency to wobble a bit. Happy Sewing everyone!

Stay safe and I hope Ida blows herself out with no problems. We were on holiday in Florida once with a hurricane brewing and our flight home was just in time ! It swerved away from where we were though ( Bradenton ) Stay safe and happy sewing x |
Thank you, Dotty! I hope you have a restful day today.
Ida sounds really bad, I will be hoping and praying for the best. |
Dotty, thanks for the next set of blocks. I have set aside part of the four-day Virtual Quilt Weekend, next weekend by the way, to make some of my final squares. OK, I am shooting for 4 to 6 of them on one day, other projects the other days. Hope to have all HJ blocks done by the end of September then my setting triangles and assembled by.....Fingers crossed..... Thanksgiving/November. Why do I have so many starts? https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/eek.png Thinking it may be a serious lack of self-control and the simple joy in trying new patterns. https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/wink.png

I had to get my next leader/ender project ready these last couple of days; that is done now, and I can start in on this month's blocks today. Everything else I work on seems somewhat boring next to our nifty Harriet blocks.

Hi y'all, Florida fared very well for the storm. Louisiana and Mississippi not so well. I got lots of sewing done during the down time. Thanks for your concerns.

I have family in Florida and they said they were doing fine, too. Rain and wind but not the hurricane magnitude. Glad you got to use your time well and not be stuck in the dark bailing water.

I started working on this month's blocks and see that I am running out of fabric. I had started with a fat quarter bundle and variety of whites. Then I bought a few more half yards of this and that. Paper piecing uses up more fabric than I expected. I may squeak through this month's blocks and then begin to figure out how to put them all together. It is fun to look at all these sweet little blocks!
|
I am also in danger of running out of my core fabrics (a FQ bundle); the line is long out of print and no yardage is available. I should have plenty of fabric to supplement the base bundle, but I'd like to stick as much as possible to the character of the original fabrics.
I agree, these little blocks are so fun to look at and to make! |
Speaking of foundation piecing, the tutorials I read on FP all said it is important to fold along all the lines of the paper pattern in advance of sewing. Well, this time I forgot, and it didn't seem to make a bit of difference.
