Sounds like a good plan ... stars with the stars.
Or you could do a stipple just in the white?
Or line quilting, as an echo to the square that is formed?
or? or? or? :D

Yaya, I love your scrappy red, white and blue quilt! What a great pattern to use up scraps!

W4M - Those are lovely glasses. Wow! What other designs do ya do?
Yaya - I really like the stars! Your idea about quiltin' stars in it would be darlin'!

Yaya - Thank you posting another quilt for us to look forward to...

Works4me - very pretty glasses!

QuiltE - the flax flowers aren't tiny, they are quite big and bold. Nothing is to scale in Appliqueland, although the leek did come out more or less actual size.

Tonight I am off on an aeroplane to Spain on a quick break with my daughter. I know lots of you have been suffering in the heat. We have had the reverse, nothing but rain since the beginning of June, so I'm hoping for lovely dry sunny weather. Not decided yet whether to take my sewing... There are still three more panels to do once I have finished the flax flowers.

Will report back on the 19th. Happy sewing everyone!

Happy Holidays to you and your daughter, Muv!!!
How special for the two of you to have some time away together.
I'll volunteer to ship some of the surplus from here to Spain ... just for you!!!
Here's to your enjoying the heat ... and not suffering!

Now you'll have us guessing what the remaining three might be?

yayaquilts - wonderful work. Star quilting sounds lovely.

dublb - thanks. I do all sorts of designs - roses, butterflies, car logos, chickadeees, dragons. Anything that converts well to black and white. Here is a link to some of my work on Flickr. I had a website but gave it up when the company wanted $190 just to host it for a year. I still had to do all the work!!

Muv - thanks. So nice you and your daughter can get away. Enjoy and I hope the weather has improved by the time you get home. It has here, finally.

I know what you mean. I don't like big white spaces either or any color for that matter when there is no or little print. Have you considered drawing something on there, using wasable pencil or marker, and then just quilting by following the lines? A simple star sounds like a great idea.

Yes, I will be finishing it soon. I need to have it finished by August 25th!!

The only thing I don't like about the white is the fact that the white spaces are kind of large so I will have to do a bit more quilting in them. I only FMQ on my domestic machine, and I haven't done feathers or such before-maybe a simple star in those white squares will work--I hope!!!

Thanks everyone for the nice compliments!! It has been a fun quilt to make. Started with 5" charms too--very easy and quick (except for a lot of trimming!!). If you aren't familiar with Eleanor Burns' patterns, they are precise. But to get the steps of piecing precise, you usually always have trimming, sometimes a lot, as she has you cut pieces larger, to account for when sewing the seams makes the pieces smaller sometimes. More work, but well worth it in the end for truly exact blocks. I just love how her patterns always come out to the size she says they should be!!

Anna--I may use "Golden Threads" thin (tissue-like paper) to quilt on (comes on a roll). You draw your design or trace a stencil on the paper and you stitch right on the paper. It pulls off really easily and works well. Then I don't have to worry about any marker not coming off, especially on white!!

YaYa ... I've seen those tissue paper rolls with printed designs on, and have been intrigued. However, I do wonder how you stabilize it on top of your quilt, while you machine quilt? Can you plese tell me more? Thanks!
