The center of BD is finished. I think I like it ;)
|
I made a few blocks for the borders around the center. I'm sooooooooooo far out of my comfort zone without white as background fabric, I still don't know if I like it or not.
|
As to using lace ect, I'm another one that started collecting for a crazy quilt quite a while ago. I'm about half way done with it now - have not worked on it for about a year . . . However I've collected enough "stuff" for 10- 15 quilts! I seem to do that, get into a collecting mode and don't know when to stop!
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...psgvfzgatn.jpg I'm getting close to starting on my Delilah quilt. I've got a lot of KF fat quarters I plan on using for that one. |
Oh yes Macybaby, you showed a few blocks of your gorgeous crazy quilt.
So I better start collecting if I really want to do this. |
Anael....love the center block. It turned out beautiful. I'm like you, without white background, I can get lost. So far you've got this figured out, tho.
Macybaby....crazy quilt is so pretty. I'm not sure what I'll do with lace collection yet. I like how you stayed neutral. That looks cool. And, KF will be fantastic on a Kingwell design. I thought about using KF for the Bring Me Flowers pattern. I cut out the scallops... Looks really neat. On to binding....I'm ready for a new project..lol.. |
Thanks Teen!!
For a moment I thought...........what/who is KF but the light went on.......:D :D :D |
BTW: the first BD block has been tossed.......in the 'what was I thinking' pile :) :) I'm sure more will follow!
|
What did you toss? Are you referring to the center you just finished?
|
Noooooooooooo, I tossed one of the border blocks. It didn't fit in, bad color choices!!
|
Santa quilt posted...just need to bind it but I don't know what color to do...same as border? Gold? Cream? Take a look and offer recommendation, please.

Binding is a quandary Teen. what will look great on the back will glare on the front .
|
Hello ladies. I'm back. I've been away visiting my grands in Indiana. We scooted out of Florida ahead of Hurricane Michael.
Teen, my vote for binding would be the same fabric as the scallop border. Great job on the border. It looks awesome. Will have to decide on what my next project will be. |
Welcome home, Judith. Hope you enjoyed the grands. Christmas right around the corner so probably lots of projects to chose from. When Santa done, I'm going to do a Christmas quilt for my neighbor. Hope to whip that out quickly. Also, another QOV....all cut and ready to go. Need to do a Snail Trail quilt for my aunt, too. (That was one of the SBS blocks I wanted to do a whole quilt using) Gracious....so little time..
|
Welcome back Judith! Did you have a great time with the grands?
Teen, like Judith I think the same fabric as the scalloped border. Love love love the finished quilt!!!!!!!! |
Teen - love your Santa quilt. I've got the same scallop ruler but have not used it for a border yet.
My thoughts on binding- I love the way it looks unbound, so I 'd lean towards the same color as the border, either the same fabric or a solid green that matches. I think gold would bring another element in that isn't much there already in the blocks (unless it just does not show in the picture) They have a lot of dark cream, which isn't quite the same as the gold in the border. Gold would look great with the border fabric, but I think it would make the border look less tied to the center. And I think cream would dilute the bold look of the dark green frame, and I like that bold frame look. However, colors on monitors can be very deceiving, so I might think something differently if I saw it in person. |
Here is a picture of the fabric I'll be using for my Delilah quilt. They are mostly KF, but not all. About half the FQs, the layer cake and jelly roll, along with the pattern are from my prize for turning in the first Row by Row quilt to my LQS. Since the owner didn't have the prize ready yet, she put it together specifically for me! The LQS has a JK sewing group that meets every month, so the owner is excited about me making this quilt.
I've been collecting KF fabric for a while, had more than I though! The folded pieces in the upper right are 1-2 yard cuts. I think it's going to be really fun picking out fabric for each block. http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...ps8hkavzoy.jpg |
Oh my, what a stunning fabrics!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
|
Wow, can't wait to see the first blocks.
|
Thank you for lovely comments on my Santa... You'all are so smart! I'll be using same border fabric for binding. My quilter said the same thing....lol... So...off I go...
Macybaby....those fabrics are luscious....you will have a blast on Delilah... |
As I have more JK patterns I'm planning ahead.
Today I was browsing the internet and came across an ad where a lady was selling Fossil Fern FQs, $ 2.90 each. I thought, oh well why not and went for it. I purchased 26 FQs, all different colors. Tonight I visited a Dutch online quiltshop where they sell exactly the same fabric, $ 20/yard.......whaaaaaa So now I'm happy with my purchase!! Can't wait to get them, pet them, admire them and keep them as they are :D :D :D |
So jealous!!!!! Those are awesome fabrics.... Perfect for you! I'll buy the Lemon Balm color off of you!! Hahahaha
|
I can send you the scraps once I'm finished with it :D :D :D
|
I already have scraps of Lemon Balm. I want a bigger piece...lol!! Ok, I'm just whining....
|
I can send you bigger scraps :D
|
Wow, I just now saw all the available colors of Fossil Fern.........I need more hahahahaha

This is how far I got now. Not so sure about the green I used, it stands out and I don't know if I like that. I will leave in there for a while and see how it's going :D :D

Ladies, look at this finished Flea Market quilt from the Quilt Lovely book:
It's made by Gayle Jeker Blake and she gave permission to share it. I specially love the way she did the sashings and corner stones. |
Oh I think you are going to like the colors now, Anael! Thanks for sharing the Flea Market quilt...crazy to think that it's the same pattern through and through.
Gotta dash...day not going as planned (garden cleanup a beautiful day for it), but my new eyes are in and can't wait to see better. Later going to spend the afternoon with a cousin who is cleaning out her mom's house...lots of family memorabilia to go through and I am the holder for the family "archives"...in other words the only one who knows anything about the family tree! Later |
OK, write it down. My mom was the only one who knew almost everything about the family and she always refused to write it down. Now nobody knows.....so sad

Anael....liking your BD so far. I didn't realize how detailed that pattern really is. Your colorway really shows that.
Cool flea market quilt. She did somebody on scrappy look. Thanks for sharing! |
Thanks Teen! Yes most of the blocks are quite detailed.
|
When all is going according to plan I will receive my Fossil Fern today, including Lemon Balm :D :D :D

Those sure are pretty!
Summer is finally winding down and I'm getting more time for sewing, though I'll be spending quite a bit of time the next day or too on the roof -that project is almost done too. I went through my fabric selection and pulled out all the big prints, they don't work so well for smaller peiced blocks like this -sometimes they muddle teh pattern. Then I pulled out a few that just didn't seem to go as well with the rest (Had two with a lot of white and one with black, and a couple of Pinks) Next step, I sorted them in two groups, kind of going light/dark but it ended up with orange/green and blue/purple. I'm going to use the Orange/green as the background, and the blue/purple for the design. Will be interesting to see how this plan works out. http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...pszbfqzmxr.jpg It's 40 fat quarters, so 10 yards so it should be enough. And I can always use the large print, I'd just have to do some fussy cutting to keep the colors consistent. I copied all the template pictures and started cutting teh first block, but now it's time to get outside and get on the roof. We are doing the front middle section (old farmhouse with several additions). It's the last part to do, and we did the tear off yesterday. http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...ps1w19idlz.jpg |
Lovely house Cathy!!!
And lovely fabrics!! Can't wait to see your blocks! Sounds interesting, orange/green background and purple for the designs. |
macybaby....All things bright and beautiful! But I'm also chuckling at that red Deluxe check box in the background. They don't send those durable boxes with your order any more...good thing I've kept some to hold the extra blank checks!
Yesterday was beautiful here...instead of outside I helped a cousin with some parental house cleaning. I brought home a laundry basket of beautiful linens that needed to be soaked. I have full rein on what to do with these. Last week, this gal presented a program at our quilt guild. Her FMQ done mostly on a DSM is absolutely beautiful. Little did I know I would have some items to work with. Several pillowcases to make hanger covers for my cousins and their daughters. Just thought you would enjoy. https://treadlemusic.wordpress.com/ |
I've seen FMQing she did, it's beyond beautiful!!! Have fun with your treasures OK!!
|
Oh my goodness....the fabrics are beautiful and totally luscious, ladies. Anael...isn't that Lemon Balm gorgeous? And those vibrant purple/blue mix of Macybaby's...wow... Gorgeous stuff!
Good luck on the roof repair, Macybaby......I just love your farmhouse.... OK.....her FMQ'ing is a dream. So cool that you got to see her actual work. And, so sweet of you to help your family. your family is blessed to have you. Today, I worked on prepping the house for Open House tmo....and getting ready for yard sale..also tmo.. Yikes. Tomorrow evening, I'm attending a veteran fund raiser and one of my QOV's will be presented. I'm excited since I am typically not present though I've been invited. Should be fun. Had some time today and worked on the October block for Fun on the Farm BOM. I posted a pic on the thread, if interested. I am not doing the recommended layout (lol...bet you couldn't have guessed that!). Anywhoo...Now to clean the sewing room.... |
Please tell me how you manage 'to have some time' with so much to do!! :)
Yes I love my new fabrics, specially the Lemon Balm hahahaha No really, they're beautiful. All of them. Now to decide what quilt to make with them. I considered making another BD with an light background throughout the whole quilt and those new fabrics as focus fabrics. |
