Here's section 8, 9 and 10. This will be it for a while, I need to make more blocks and sew more strips!!

Anael, it looks fabulous. I like that you added some lighter strips in there. It really balances the color well.

Thank you Judith! I'm happy with those lighter strips too.

I redid Crazy Anne. Here's the old one

and this is the new one. I think this one fits better colourwise!

Wow, so neat looking, Anael!

Macybaby 06-22-2018 06:03 AM

I'm going to start on my Bakers Dozen quilt. This one is sort of medallion style. I want a bit more color coordination so I have to do some planning for that. This pattern uses a lot of strings, and I bought it because at the time, I had a lot of strings! But then I did the Boxes of Strings quilt and that used up most of them. But on the good side, that does free me up to use stash and not scraps for this one.

Anael 06-22-2018 07:30 AM

My Bakers Dozen book is still on its way. It's been here in The Netherlands since June 17th but still not delivered. Weird!! Tomorrow I'll purchase Long Time Gone, well the book that is :) Hopefully!

Anael 06-22-2018 12:01 PM

Sometimes you see a quilt which catches your eye. I just saw a Long Time Gone on Facebook, made with 30's fabrics and pink sashings. I asked the lady for permission to post the photo here on the board. Waiting for her to reply ;)

frustratedquilter40 06-22-2018 03:47 PM

I hope she lets you if not maybe you could make a link and we could go see it. I bet it is beautiful!

Anael 06-22-2018 08:28 PM

A link is not possible as it's a closed Facebook group. I didn't get a reply yet.
I won't be home today so maybe tonight when I'm back.

Judith1005 06-23-2018 04:06 AM

Anael, great section. I love the heart block. You seem to like her patterns a lot. I have been thinking about the Green Tea and Sweet Beans pattern a lot. I really like that one. I may break down and buy that one. I will probably make it scrappy with what I have at home. But, it is not on the list to start till I finish up a few more UFO's. I'm getting there ladies. I still have quite a few to go. But, I will reach my goal of at least 8 finishes this year. Hopefull 12. But, definitely 8. With a couple of new finishes also.

I'm going to make my Happy Flower quilt in 30's reproduction fabrics. I just need to locate a few more blue prints. I think I have plenty of everything else. http://www.fabricpixie.com.au/Happy-...a-_p_7993.html Just a link so you can see what the quilt would look like. I didn't pay near that much for the book!

Right now, I'm working on a R/W/B quilt for my SIL who is deployed. I hope to finish up that quilt top in the next month and get it off to the quilter. I need to pick up some reds today. My stash is woefully low on reds. I keep looking, but, I don't want to buy anything I don't love!

Anael 06-23-2018 08:27 AM

Thank you Judith. Yes I like her patterns a lot, not the fabrics she's using though. Good thing I can do my own thing :D
Like you I was supposed to finish a few UFO's before starting new projects. But.....life is short and I decided I want to start Jen Kingwell quilts anyway, so I did :)

Today I purchased the Long Time Gone book!! I still didn't hear from the lady on Facebook about the pink Long Time Gone.

Macybaby 06-23-2018 08:34 AM

I'm saving my UFO's for when I retire and have more time. I don't consider a top waiting to be quilted a UFO because I have not abandoned them, they are just waiting in line.

I've got an idea I really want to get started on - it's a wedge/medallion style quilt. So I might not start on the Baker's Dozen today. I'm still contemplating my color scheme for that one anyway.

Anael 06-23-2018 08:47 AM

I am retired so no saving for me.......haha! I have a few waiting to be quilted but a lot more UFO's - real ones. Started projects waiting to be finished. And then they will be waiting in line to be quilted :D :D

Judith1005 06-23-2018 10:50 AM

Most of my UFO's (not all) just need a border of some sort. And, then there are the real ones, that are only half done because I have a very short attention span and flit from one thing to another. Hence, the I need to finish some things. So, my goal this year is to finish as much as possible. I will probably finish two maybe three swap block quilts this year also. I'm making progress.

No more swap blocks for this year. I have over involved myself to the point that I had to put off things I really wanted to work on.

Anael 06-23-2018 11:37 AM

I have more UFO's than I want to admit! I will finish a few this year, like my Dear Jane, the 364 Challenge and maybe one or two more. But like you Judith I have a short attention span and need to have more projects going. I almost never stick to one and finish without doing another project in between.

RJLinkletter 06-23-2018 11:05 PM

Wow I hadn’t heard of Jenny Kingwell until I stumbled across this thread. I love all the blocks you have been making! I have only been quilting 6 months so some of these may be a but beyond me at the moment but I am definitely going to look at her patterns. Are most of the blocks put together ‘patchwork’ style or paper pieced?

Anael 06-23-2018 11:20 PM

Hi RJLinkletter, welcome here in our Jen Kingwell world :)

Her blocks are pieced patchwork style. You can pp them though but you either need to draw the patterns yourself or have a programm like EQ.
The Green Beans and Sweet Tea quilt has a lot of appliqued blocks.
The blocks aren't hard to do. The quilts need quite some planning colourswise.

RJLinkletter 06-24-2018 01:38 AM

Thanks Anael. I much prefer PP to patchwork as I am more accurate with PP. I don’t mind appliqué although I have mostly done fused raw edge. I am looking at the appliquick method at the moment and might try that

Anael 06-24-2018 01:53 AM

You're welcome! I really like the Apliquick method, it's easy, no raw edges, quite fast and fun!

When you piece the blocks, you really need to use a scant 1/4" seam. The blocks come out (almost) exactly to size. Just sometimes they're not......;) I guess that's pilot error hahaha!
I love PP but when I want to practice my piecing skills I just piece, no PP.

You might want to try the Quilt Lovely book with quilts in different sizes but also pillows. Most quilts in the book are easy.

Anael 06-24-2018 07:59 AM

Well, today I finished all the blocks of section 6 of my GW. Now I still need 4 blocks of section 5 and 4 of section 7. Then it's deciding which strips go where!
I haven't decided on borders yet. It depends on the finished size without borders.

Wow Anael, you are on a roll! I can't wait to see the next section.

Anael 06-25-2018 03:54 AM

I finished all GW blocks today. Now I really need to decide on the strips!!

In the meantime I started the first Long Time Gone block.......yes I know, I also started Green Beans & Sweet Tea hahaha. I need to keep myself occupied :D :D

Judith1005 06-25-2018 04:34 AM

Yeah Anael!! Your really flying through this quilt. Pictures, pictures, pictures. Inquiring eyes want to see. Wow, you really do keep yourself busy.

I am working on an old UFO. My Giant Scrappy Swoon and I am also working of a R/W/B Patriotic quilt for my deployed Son-In-Law. I just need to finish up 2 more blocks and then I can start sashing it.

I can't wait for Teen to get back. I wonder how she is doing on her GTSB's quilt. I bet she is working on her hand work while she is away. I am so craving some more pictures.

Awwww Judith, thank you so much. Most of the blocks are in bags, first time I'm this organized hahahahahaaaa
Here are some pictures for you.......;)

The other blocks in baggies....the background quilt is the 365 challenge. I still need to make a few blocks to finish that one.

The start of Long Time Gone - Jacobs Ladder. I need 2 more small blocks for the large block.

Anael 06-25-2018 05:01 AM

I have to say, not all the blocks from section 7 are from the original Gypsy Wife. I got a bit bored making 3" square in a square blocks so I made a few other ones. And the 7" also is different from the original one (should have been square in a square double bordered but I didn't feel like making that one :D )

Your fabric choices remind me of the artist Mary Englebreit. I love her work.

Judith1005 06-25-2018 09:19 AM

Wow, Great fabrics. I am loving the look of this Gypsy Wife quilt. I can't wait to see the completed top.

Thanks for taking the time to post photos. I am really enjoying your progress.

Anael 06-25-2018 09:23 AM

Thanks Judith and you're so welcome. It will take a while. I'm working on section 5 and 6 now.

Judith1005 06-26-2018 03:41 AM

Anael, your Gypsy Wife is coming out so pretty. I just love the "ice cream" colors you are using.

Anael 06-26-2018 04:03 AM

I'm sewing like there's no tomorrow hahahaha. I found a few mistakes.......they will stay in the quilt. One is quite obvious - I think - but the other one(s) not so.
Section 3, 4 and 6 are finished too and attached to the top. Now there's section 1, 2 and 7 left. My designwall will be too small for the whole quilt.

Anael 06-26-2018 04:15 AM

I will make another Gypsy Wife, like the Starry Sky one, with blues, yellows and greens. It will be so different from this one, one might not even recognize it's the same pattern!
Who's in for a second wife? :D :D :D

Judith1005 06-26-2018 04:24 AM

I might be ready for a first Gypsy Wife at some point Anael. But, I can't put it in my schedule yet. I would need to buy the pattern. But, it is quite pricey and I have not heard good things about how it is written. But, you don't seem to be having any problems at all with it. Have corrections been made and is it an easy pattern to follow?

And, as far a mistakes, this quilt is so busy, there are no mistakes. At least as far as I can see.

Judith1005 06-26-2018 04:27 AM

Anael, You top is looking great. Those light strips in there really make a difference. Otherwise, I think you would loose a lot of work in the individual blocks.

Anael 06-26-2018 04:41 AM

Hahaha thank you. It's busy indeed.
No, it's not an easy pattern, though the blocks aren't hard to make. The way Jen has written the instructions there's quite some waste of fabric which I personally don't like. So I'm either paper piecing my blocks or follow my own plan ;) Some corrections have been made, I didn't come upon mistakes. Like Macebaby said, there is one spot where you could have done the strips differently - not cut them between sections - but I didn't feel like doing it again. And it won'te be noticed once the quilt is finished.
The hard part is planning the whole thing - or not and end up with a very wild quilt where patterns get lost in the process. I've seen quilts where there's hardly any difference between blocks and strips.
I didn't plan the strips, I'm cutting them as I go and thus deciding on colours as I go too.

Macybaby 06-26-2018 05:48 AM

I was thinking one way to get the blocks to stand out more is to make sure to use a contrasting fabric for the blocks with sashing. I've also thought of doing it using all types of "star" blocks and making them in sizes so I can put sashing around all of them. I like the look of the stronger horizontal lines around the blocks to break up all the vertical lines.

When I made mine, I thought I'd not like all those square in a square blocks, but after I put it together I really liked having a bunch of them.

Anael 06-26-2018 06:02 AM

Hi Mace!!
I agree about the contrast needed. I might have done a few blocks differently, having realized just that.
That's the hard part about this quilt, you need to plan it all before starting to cut fabrics.
But it's never too late for a second one :D :D
I like the square in a square too, I just didn't like making that many so I made one or two differently.
