I love seeing all these new blocks...
|
Hi OK :D :D
I decided to redo the wedding chain block. I know I won't like the background colour after all and this qult is a lot of work so I want it to be what I really want. I'm a bright person......hahahaha so bright(er) it will be!! |
Good for you Anael. Better to change it out now. I like your berry block. Very pretty.
|
Thank you Judith!

Here's the replacement. Now I'm happy :) :)

Oh, I love the replacement. It flows so much better.
|
Blocks look lovely, Anael....I like your basket, too. We are of like minds. I didn't want a big block of solid color on top of the background of that block. And, I like the redo of wedding block. Looks great. The poppie block has a circle to applique once the block is done. It was so much easier to PP, at least for me. Glad you received your GTSB book finally. I haven't had any issues with pattern yet so hopefully you won't either. I'll share if I do.
Are you using Appliquick method? If so, do you like it? |
Thank you both!!
Yes I'm using the Apliquick method, of course!! Otherwise I wouldn't have finished this fast haha! I like it. The points still need some attention but I'm happy with what I did. I only did these threee blocks so no issues yet! A lady on Facebook just said the GW was a fun but very frustrating pattern. I guess she didn't have the second edition of the book. She's also planning a second GW hahahaha. I almost ordered solids in blues/greens/yellows and oranges but I didn't!! I was very brave.......:D |
Oh...I'm so glad you like that technique. With anything, you'll get better at the points with practice. I think they look great. Your berry circles look perfect so it looks like you got circles down pat....
I was organizing my sewing nook and patterns last night and looked through GW book. I'm not motivated to start that quilt yet. I think I'll wait until I move. |
:D Thank you :D
Don't start, you'll create an UFO and you don't want UFO's!! I was looking at the double drunkards path and thought 'what if I make a drunkards path and applique the Mm part of the double one on that one?' What do you think? I don't see myself sewing those three parts to make a double drunkards path. I hate curved sewing!! |
Do we need sleep? I want to sew!!!!! I just made freezer paper templates for the drunkards path block. But I think it's wiser to try and get some sleep......
|
Yes, sleep is probably a could call right now...hahaha... I'm going to attempt to sew them since they are 8". it was the 6" block on SBS that did my head in. Ended up appliquing that one. On that nasty Peter pay Paul block I glued my curves together and it worked great. I may do the same if these end up being too challenging otherwise. I generally have no problem with pieced curves but not much practical experience in tiny pieced curves.

Cutting these out was more challenging then sewing them... 2 more to go of these blocks...thank goodness.. Not sure the method you use to sew curves, Anael, but I'm a pinner as taught by the Craftsy class and it worked well... Didn't have to glue...
|
Great job Teen. The block looks awesome.
|
Oh Teen that one is wonderful!!
Yes, I'm a pinner too. Hopefully mine will look as good as yours! |
Anael I love the blocks the new ones definitely flow together better.
Teen those curves look great! I made some curved blocks a small drunkards path and they did not meet up as nice as yours. I used a special foot to do curves called Curve Master. |

Thank you, everyone! Christine...I've never heard of a presser foot like that. I will admit, I am completely ignorant o the many presser feet on my machine and really only use about 4 different ones. I'm going to look that up.. I should make it a goal to learn each one but I'd rather just keep on keeping on.. Lol!
I've assembled part of section 2 and will likely not get anymore completed for a couple of weeks. I leave on Sunday and will be gone but I'm taking some of the applique with me to work on while gone...here is what I have so far.... |
Love it Teen, it's coming together nicely :) Are you consistent in using black/white as checkerboard?
I don't think I have a special presser foot for curved piecing. I don't do enough curved piecing to get a special foot. However......with all the Jen Kingwell quilts.....she uses curved piecing quite a lot. I'll look into it. |
Thanks, Anael.... Yes, I'll be using B&W for all the checkerboard fills. I like the look of it. This may change when all sections are done and laid out but I'll see how it looks...I don't know if you noticed but I added a small side border along berry basket block. I ended up trimming to finished size..ugh! So, I had to add to the block. Lol...Lordy..I think it looks good and I didn't want to re-do the whole block...
|
:D :D :D Been there, done that too :D :D :D Not so easy to save though. I had to make a whole new block. That's the great thing about this quilt, it's yours and you can do whatever you want. Noone will ever know the berry basket block shouldn't be like this. I didn't notice.
Thanks, having the grands here is always nice! Now it's time to go to bed, it's 11 pm here now. CU all tomorrow! |
Great job Teen. I only noticed your little fix it after you pointed it out. But, It doesn't look wrong. I thought it was supposed to be there. So, great fix.
|
Teen that is looking so beautiful!
Here is a link to the presser foot I bought awhile back for my machine. https://www.amazon.com/Curve-Master-...61235501&psc=1 |
I came upon a product called Wonder Tape. Any of you ever used that for curved piecing?
|
Thank you, all! And, thank you, Christine for the link. I'll check it out... Anael...I saw wonder tape somewhere, I don't recall, and didn't really pay attention to the use. Looks like it's water soluble so that's good. May work really well on curves.
Last evening, I prepped some applique to take with me. I, also, dug in my stuff and found another applique kit of Classic Santa's I bought at a local quilt guild show awhile ago. They only had 5 of the Santa blocks but I found a a website that sells all the BOM block patterns so I'll buy the patterns when I get home for the 7 I need and use my stash. So, it looks like I'm good to go for crafting while traveling. |
:D You go girl :D :D What will your Santa's be? Wall hanging? Do you have a picture?
I was at the LQS, looked if they had the wonder tape but they didn't. I guess I just have to get better at curved piecing! |
Here's the Santa quilt I'll make....tho, I'm not going to buy the pieced block patterns....just the 7 Santa patterns I need. I'll pick out the 12 & 6 inch blocks to use with it. I have my SBS pattern book to chose from...lol...

Oh that's a gorgeous Santa quilt!!! Yes you have your SBS book :) And there is a lot to find online too!

They've got some neat patterns on this website. Several I really like, namely the 4 different seasons applique quilts and a couple of the Baltimore Album quilts. I may buy all the patterns of 4 seasons, too. Lordy...

:D Teen, I saw Winter and Summer, not Spring or Autumn.
I had another look at the GW strips and studied the one with the white/off white/light grey strips again. There's no cohesion in the quilt, it looks like the blocks are scattered on a white piece of fabric. I think I know why the block with the dark blue starry fabric looks out of place. It's not that block, it's the Crazy Anne block. The white fabric with the light blue dots needs to be replaced! So that's what I'm going to do. The Starry Night block can stay..........:) One more strip and section 10 is done. I just need to decide what colour to use for that strip. |

So here's section 10 without the last strip :D I couldn't wait to show you and find out what you all think!
The Starblock will be in that exact place once section 8 and 9 are done. |
Beautiful Anael. I love how bright and cheery it is.

Hhmm I wonder about the wonder tape have never heard of it being used for curves piecing.
Anael wow it is really coming together. I may try her Gypsy Wife Quilt next if I get Long Time Ago done but have so many patterns and books though I need to make some of those though. Well here are my 21 3.5" churn blocks. Next up is 9 5.5" Courthouse Step Blocks. Happy Sewing everyone! |
Thank you!!
Those Churn Dashes are lovely Christine!! You're happy with them too? The Long Time Gone (or ago hahaha) is on my bucket list. I still need to purchase the book though. Was going to yesterday but didn't go for that ride. As far as I know now it's going to be next Saturday. |
Anael...gorgeous!!!
Christine....love your little churn dashes......every one is perfect. Phew...that's done...good job! In our hotel room now but I'm pooped from travel so waiting to arrive in Idaho tomorrow to work on blocks each night....or when I have the energy...lol... |

Here are two more GTSB blocks. |
So cheerful, Anael! I have to be honest, at first I thought Jen Kingwell's patterns hard to look at, being so busy, but now after seeing all these bright, happy blocks individually, I'm loving it!
|
What a great thread idea Anael! I am loving all the vibrant colors. I never knew anything about this designer before now, but these quilts definitely speak my language. To those of you who are posting photos-- thank you so much! It's all eye candy.
|
Thank you NZ!! I don't like the fabrics Jen Kingwell is using that much, too busy IMHO. It all depends on the fabrics but that's always the case :)
|
Thanks for the compliments SewingSew!! I only knew she designed the Gypsy Wife and not so long ago I found out she designed many more :)
