I forgot that too. When I read "1 inch pieces I was like what???"
I think it won't matter either, once you are finished. They look great!

joe'smom 03-03-2021 04:00 PM

I decided my second fat eighth bundle wasn't appropriate for such small pieces, but it's such a big bundle, I think it would probably work to do the large size blocks. My machine went in for servicing today, so I have about a week to decide if I want to do a third series.

Queenbarbiej 03-04-2021 06:56 PM

March is out. here's the link https://www.aquiltinglife.com/2021/0...he-month.html/

DJ 03-04-2021 08:04 PM

Thanks Queenarbiej!

I printed out the directions and need to select fabric.

I'll be using a different method of construction for the quarter square triangles.

Kitsie 03-07-2021 09:24 AM

Did you buy the fat quarters or what size, please? Looks like a very enjoyable project!

Queenbarbiej 03-07-2021 01:44 PM

Kitsie I use mostly yardage and some scraps.

Most of the fabrics i'm using are from my stash. i did purchase a few fat quarters that would coordinate (just because i liked them. i'll have lots of fabric left!

Finished my March block yesterday...

SusieQOH 03-08-2021 05:30 AM

Beautiful work, jmoore, and your fabrics are yummy!

joe'smom 03-08-2021 10:23 AM

jmoore, your block is beautiful!

I have my fabrics selected and hoping to get my machine back from servicing in the next couple of days.

DJ 03-08-2021 03:17 PM

Wonderful jmoore! Hope to work on mine some today. Fabrics are selected and cut to size.

jmoore 03-09-2021 05:00 AM

Thanks everyone...I look forward to your finished blocks.

Here's my March block. When I was sewing the blocks together I realized that I had my needle to the far right which gave a bigger than a 1/4" seam. So I added fabric all around then cut the corners with the green triangles.

joe'smom 03-13-2021 09:12 PM

Clever fix, Queenbarbiej! That's a sweet block with the little mushrooms.

jmoore 03-14-2021 04:27 AM

Yes, great save QB...no one would ever know the difference. Nicely done.

DJ 03-14-2021 09:37 AM

Queenbarbiej ~ Nice design element!

Can't seem to get my picture to upload ... will try again later.

I may have found some wonderful fabrlc to use as sashing for these blocks. I’ll be auditioning it tomorrow.

joe'smom 03-14-2021 12:07 PM

I thought I would have my sewing machine back by now, but it turns out DDIL (subbing for DH, who couldn't lift because of eye surgery) hadn't taken it in after 10 days. So now the estimate is 2 1/2 weeks. I do have my old machine available, but the sewing on that is so much more laborious and inaccurate, I'm inclined to wait for my good machine, at least for the smaller versions.

Here it is!

jmoore 03-15-2021 03:49 AM

Joe’smom, I bet you are going stir crazy...I would be lost without my machine. I’m sorry to hear that you have to wait another couple of weeks.

Lovely block DJ, I love the center fabric and how you positioned the colors around it.

joe'smom 03-15-2021 12:32 PM

DJ, your shades of purple and blue in that block are lovely together!

I have my machine back and am getting caught up. Here are my first two blocks for my larger versions. The first is an Art Gallery bundle, and the second is, I think, a Bonnie and Camille.

I'm not loving the cluttered look of lots of different neutrals, and am beginning to wish I had purchased some yardage for a consistent background throughout, but it seems late to do that now. I was trying to stick with my bundle fabric for my pinwheels in the second group, but I think I should have gone out of the bundle for something with better contrast. This is definitely a learning experience for me.

DJ 03-30-2021 04:59 PM

Thanks for the compliments on my March block!

joe'smo ~ You have some lovely blocks, too. Yes, this BOM is a learning experience for me, too. I'm not sure what all the blocks will look like together.

Recently I spearheaded the creation of a memorial quilt. I provided all the participants with a "focus" fabric and asked them to make a block using that fabric. I then combined all the blocks into a lap quilt to give to the family. The blocks were so diverse, I had no idea how I would get them to look like a cohesive, beautiful quilt. I thought the focus fabric would keep the color scheme harmonized, but I was wrong. At least the colors didn't harmonize in my eyes. I was finally able to pick a sashing fabric that really seemed to bring it all together.

For this A Quilting Life BOM, I picked a focus fabric and various other coordinating fabrics from my stash. I think I have the perfect sashing fabric picked out that will unify the blocks. I'm not used to doing sampler quilts or scrappy, so this seems to challenge me.

I can't wait till tomorrow for the new block! I was so impatient for the last one that I was disappointed it wasn't ready for download as soon as I got up in the morning. I'm on the West coast, so it seemed to me that it was very late. LOL

jmoore 03-31-2021 03:26 AM

Yay joe’smom...I’m delighted to hear you’ve got your machine back and able to sew again. 🤗 Your blocks look great and how ambitious of you to do two.

DJ, part of the fun is not knowing how it’s going to turn out but it is a nice way to improve our piecing skills...at least mine anyway.
That’s terrific that you have found a sashing that coordinates with your blocks. I can’t wait to see how it will all come together.

Oh no! I truly am over-anxious. It's not due till TOMORROW. One more day to wait!

DJ 04-01-2021 05:51 AM

I think the one I was impatient for was the other BOM, actually.

This month's is Flying Dutchman which I love. Wish I could work on it today, but it's not in the cards. We're opening our lake place for the season over the weekend. I think I'll select fabrics (maybe get them cut, too) and take them along to make it there.

joe'smom ~ Nice work. I love your fabrics!

Here's my April block plus showing all 4 with my proposed sashing.

joe'smom 04-18-2021 01:10 PM

Fabulous April block, DJ! They all look so good together, nice and crisp with the clean background. I think that sashing works well.

Joe’smom, I am envious of your ambition in doing several BOMs and such wonderful fabric choices for each.

DJ, I love your colors and I think your proposed sashing would be perfect. Your blocks are looking fabulous.

I used VQW to catchup on my two BOMs.

joe'smom 05-06-2021 10:38 AM

jmoore, your April block looks wonderful!

I have not gotten to my April blocks, as I'm absorbed in planning my Harriet's Journey, but I do hope to get back to them. Here is the link for this month:

DJ 05-06-2021 03:49 PM

I've started pulling fabrics for the May block. I love half-square triangles! These will be pretty small though. I'm contemplating doing the block just a bit differently though.

jmoore 05-07-2021 03:36 AM

I thought the same thing DJ. I tried to calculate in my head but I think the HSTS for the 12” block are still to be just under 2” each. Definitely a skill builder block.

DJ 05-08-2021 11:15 AM

My 1/2 square triangles are not coming out the right size to match the rectangles. They can be trimmed to the right size, but that's not part of the directions as far as I can see. Anyone else have this problem, or am I not seeing something?

DJ 05-08-2021 11:37 AM

Oh yes, now I see where it does have you trim the 1/2 square triangles down to 2". I'm okay with that.

Where is everyone? I'm surprised I'm the first one to post my May block.

I did turn the baskets a different direction and cut the fabric for the large background squares in one piece, so construction was a bit different.

So far I'm very pleased with this BOM.

SusieQOH 05-11-2021 05:45 AM

Omg! I forgot all about this! My husband was in the hospital for so long that I let it go. Thanks for the reminder!!!

SusieQOH 05-11-2021 06:30 AM

DJ, your block is lovely!

DJ 05-13-2021 06:49 AM

SUSIEQOH ~ Thank you! Hope your DH is recovering well.

Queenbarbiej 06-09-2021 11:30 AM

I completely forgot about May block. I will get May and June blocks done this weekend.
