A Quilting Life BOM
This is another BOM I plan to make a go at this year. Anyone care to join me?
January 2021 Quilt Block of the Month | A Quilting Life I would show you my fabrics and first block but apparently a “security code is missing” whatever that is. Maybe later … |

Oh no...I wasn’t planning to do two BOMs but I love Sherri and Chelsi. I listen to their Podcast weekly and follow her blog posts. I think I have no choice...🤪
I think I have a FQ bundle in my stash that would be perfect for his project. I’ll post pictures later as we are without internet and phones this morning at our house. |
This looks like it could be a good scrappy quilt
|
Thanks DJ. I'll save these patterns for later.
|
I love Sherri and Chelsi too. I recently bought their Balboa fabric and can't wait to sink my teeth in it!
Love your fabrics, DJ. |
Thanks, DJ! I love these gals! They are so creative.. Your first block looks great! Very pretty...
|
I just came back from this site after pasting it in my book marks. This is one that I am sure to do. I love the Jan block a scrappy churn dash. How pretty, and I am a scrappy girl. Thanks for the link.
|
I’m deciding on if I should do this BOM...I’ve had a set of fabric for a super long time in a colorway of black, gray, tan, cream...thinking of doing a custom layout by making both the 12” & 6”. Anyone still planning on doing this BOM?

I'm doing this BOM and the 2021 Old School BOM. I'm doing both in the same colors.
|
Queenbarbiej, that is so pretty!
|
Queenbarbiej ~ Great fabrics and pretty block! I’m also hoping to complete the Old School BOM.
I’m working on the February block but it’s turning into a Murphy’s Law battle. I thought these would go more quickly, but I sure seem to spend a lot of time just picking which fabrics to use. Then I decided to do the half-square triangles with the paper sheets but picked the wrong size, so every single one had to be cut down. I haven’t decided if it would have been easier to just re-do them from scratch. I’m finally to the stage of sewing all the 2” blocks together and working carefully to get the points as sharp as I can. Hope to have it finished to show in the next day or two. |
When it's a BOM, how many blocks of each do you do?
Watson |
Great collection of Queenbarbie...your January block looks lovely.
Watson, usually 12 blocks... |
Watson, I just checked. It's 12 blocks. You can either make a 6 or 12 inch block. I'm doing 12.
|
But we just make one of each month's block, correct?
|
Yes, joe'smom- that's correct.
I'm just getting started with January's block and printed both( Feb too). Looks like fun! |
Is there any easy way to get to the block of the months on A Quilting Life website? It took me about ten minutes to find it. Only way I found it was putting in Aquiktinglife.com/2021.
|
Queen, I think your way is the easiest. Otherwise you have to go through all the blog posts. At least that's been my experience.
Maybe when March comes along if I can remember I'll post a link here. |

My January block. I'm using Balboa, Sherri & Chelsi's line.
|
I'm putting it on my calendar to check the blog on the first Thursday of each month, so it should be able to find without too much scrolling. Hope that does the trick.
|
Beautiful block Susie...I loved the Balboa collection but I’ve been sitting on Sherri & Chelsi’s Creekside for some time so that is what I cut into yesterday. I have cut pieces for both January and February blocks and hopefully I will get one done today.
|
Thanks, jmoore- I cut out Block 2- hope it comes out okay. Lots of HST's. Sherri and Chelsi have so many yummy fabrics. I'm not a purple lover at all but the purplish in this line is cute.
Good idea, DJ. Just looked at Creekside- love it!!!!!!! |

|
Love it!! I see some Nest in there. I love that line too and made a King quilt with it. Beautiful work, jmoore :)

DJ lovely colors.
|
Love it, DJ.
jmoore- you wanna laugh? I'm in another "slow along" with Bev McCullough and when I pulled out a bundle of FQ's -guess what it was? Creekside! LOL I didn't even know I had it !! I need serious help haha Queenbarbie- I like your block but if you don't that's all that matters. |
I've been following along and am ready to join in on this BOM. I've printed out the first two patterns and dug out some bundles to use. I have these two, quite stylized fat eighth bundles that I think would be hard to combine with other fabrics, so my plan is to make two of the small version and one of the large. I think I will take Sherri's suggestion and simply do one of the 6" pinwheels for the smaller versions of month 2.
|
joe's mom- glad you're joining us. There have only been two so far so you're not behind.
|
Nice to see so much participation. It's definitely not too late to join in.
|
Guess I will join in! Love these girls and Churn Dash is a favorite for me right now!

That's a beautiful block, SusieQOH! The colors in that fabric line are lovely.
Here is my first small set of blocks. I have never worked with 1" pieces before! This fabric is called Flour Garden. Do you think the second block looks too hulking next to the first? I opted for Sherri's suggestion of doing one of the 6" pinwheels instead of the 4 tiny ones. |
joe'smom ~ Lovely blocks! The second one seems just a bit overpowering, but I think when you have all the other blocks completed, you will be able to arrange them so that the stronger ones are scattered throughout the quilt. I am doing the larger blocks, but I would have opted for the single pinwheel also. I want to make a mini block some day, so I may use this pattern to make it using the small pieces and only 1/4 of the block and see how it goes.

I am doing the 12” blocks along with the Old School BOM in fact, I’m using the same FQ collection in case I want to combine them all into one quilt down the road. |
